Aug 18th 2010 8:14PM Angela, I just wanted to say thank you for your response. It was very well-thought out and right on the mark! As you pointed out,the educational system is built from the top down. The administration is fully funded while the funds have dried up by the time one reaches the classrom level. The requests made by the classroom teachers may seem unreasonable to some parents but they truly are necessary. A classroom is, in reality, a small community. There are 25-30 citizens learning, playing and utilizing the resources of the community each day. Children need the basics such as paper, pencils, crayons and glue. Teachers need copy paper, markers, kleenex, etc. and should not be expected to pay for thse items from their own pockets. Instead of shortchanging the teachers by refusing to send in needed supplies, demand accountability from school administrators. I speak from experience as I was a classroom teacher for 20+ years. I would hate to tally up my out-of-pocket expenses over that time period.
