Victoria, Texas 10 Cent (2 of 4)
Postmarked March 30, 1863, this is one of only two known examples of the Victoria, Texas 10 cent denomination Postmaster's provisional postage stamp on a mailed envelope. Wall Street executive William H. Gross paid $115,000 for it in 1999 and now it is one of the highlights of his Confederate States of America Collection to be offered in a public auction by Spink Shreves Galleries, November 19, 2009, with all proceeds to be donated by Gross and his wife, Sue, to the Smithsonian National Postal Museum. 17/10/09
