Spindrift Cove, Estate of the Day

Today's estate takes us back to the incredibly scenic town of Carmel California. We looked at a home very close to this one in December in the Carmel Highlands area which is between Carmel-by-the-Sea and Big Sur. This area boasts some of the country's priciest real estate. Today's home, a stone manor house on 4.25 acres, dates back to 1921. The area's famous Cypress trees surround the home which is set high on a hill overlooking the water. The home has beamed ceilings, large fireplaces, hardwood floors and wide windows with white water and Point Lobos views. One nice detail is the stone porch with glass windows and a wood stove for chilly evenings. A separate guest house is tucked away from the main house. This home is listed at $9.95 million with Mike Canning. Check out the property website for additional pictures.

It has more than 4,000 square feet of living space, an elevator, hand-carved living room ceilings, an eat-in kitchen, four bedrooms (two of which are master suites) and four bathrooms. It has some charming Moorish details incude a carved wood ceiling in the double-height living room and peaked arch windows. He has listed the home at $2.175 million with Allyson Carter of Rodeo Realty.

John Schneider Lists His Agoura Hills Home

john schneiderActor John Schneider is moving on. The actor, who first rose to prominence in the 1980s as Bo Duke on "The Dukes of Hazzard" has lived in his home in Agoura Hills, California since 1999 when he bought the home for $1.25 million. The six-bedroom home is an English-style house on 2.67 acres.

The family home has a game room, bar and Schneider also set up a recording booth in the office and a studio for editing. The home is listed at $2.199 million. Trump Bids on Patricia Kluge's Virginia Estate

trump bids on patricia kluge estateThe latest wrinkle in Patricia Kluge's dispursal of fortune involves another famed billionaire: Donald Trump. This Wednesday, Trump had two lawyers representing him at the auction of Albemarle House, Kluge's luxe estate on 300 acres in tony Albemarle County, Va.

Shortly before the auction began, Steve Blaine and Les Goldman announced to the crowd of approximately 60 gathered in front of the Albemarle County Courthouse that they represented Donald Trump. What others might not have realized is that Trump had already purchased the adjacent 200 acres which, because of conditions outlined when Kluge gained the property in her divorce, would grant him right of first refusal on Albemare House.

"I think Mr. Trump wanted others to be aware that he was a bidder and he controlled the front yard of the house," said Baine, a Charlottesville, Va. lawyer. "He's a savvy business person but I think any other person with a serious interest in the house would have tried to figure out how to secure those 200 acres first."

Farnlun Place, Estate of the Day

Today's home in Sun Valley, Idaho is on 2.86 acres and located within minutes of all sorts of recreation including hiking trails, fishing, golf and more. There is a main home, four guest cabins, a caretaker's cabin, car barn and, the coolest feature, the entertainment barn. Multiple fireplaces offer places to lounge and warm up after the snow and the large open kitchen is nicely set up for entertaining. Archer Road, Estate of the Day

Today's home is a Norman-style estate in the town of Harrison, New York. The six-bedroom home, built in 1931, was designed by architect Frank J. Forster and is on 1.9 acres. A gated, stone-pillared entry adds to the feeling of stepping into the past. The home has its original Ludowici tile roof, stone and original brick construction and three turrets. A hand-carved Gothic door opens into the stone reception hall with powder room. To the right is a turret with a circular staircase embellished by medallion windows. An arched entry leads to the sunken living room with wood ceiling beams. The living room has a Norman-style fireplace with built-in side seating, random-width pegged floors and the luxurious space to accommodate numerous seating arrangements.

Another nice feature is the paneled library with a corner fireplace includes a built-in wet bar. The formal dining room has a fireplace, hand hewn beams and wide plank oak floors with French doors leading out to a private stone terrace. An updated eat-in-kitchen has a reclaimed antique terra cotta floor, tumbled marble counters and a center island. There are modern appliances, an adjacent laundry room, new powder room and mud room. Double doors lead out to the porte cochere, four car garage and beamed-ceilinged tack room.

On the second floor there is a master suite with the original tray ceiling and a cozy fireplace and sitting area. The renovated master bath has a Jacuzzi and separate shower plus a dressing area with floor-to-ceiling closets. There are two bedrooms with connecting bath, two bedrooms each with private baths, an additional wing with bedroom, new bath and an expansive family room. Outside a free form pool has its own terrace and is surrounded by a wrought iron fence. This home is listed at $3.5 million with Michele Flood of Coldwell Banker. The property website with larger photos is here.

Shawn Green Drops The Price On His Irvine Home

Last year when I covered this home in Irvine, California as an estate of the day I wasn't aware that it is also a piece of sports star real estate. Zillow says that this lavish estate in Orange County belongs to former Los Angeles Dodgers player Shawn Green and it's had yet another price cut.

The 13,500 square foot mansion is on a 1.73 acre lot with a surrounding vineyard that produces two barrels of wine at harvest. The property is located in the community of Shady Canyon and designed by the collaborative efforts of ForestStudios and Ritner Group and constructed by Pacific Design Estates Construction, Inc. The artsy interiors were designed by local designer, d. Kruse and the property features a subterranean wine cellar and tunnel connecting the residence to the pool house and home theater. The huge gourmet kitchen has a walk-in refrigerator, Lacanche range and a large center island with a pop-up television. It was originally listed at $17.5 million but the price has slowly been dropping. It's now listed at $10.9 million.

Laurie Metcalf Lists Her Valley Village Home

laurie metcalfThis week thanks to a little help from Oprah, the world was reminded of what a great television show "Roseanne" was. Although it was named for its star, Roseanne Barr, the show was really an ensemble of talented actors. Laurie Metcalf played Roseanne's sister Jackie and has had a successful career since the show, appearing on television and doing voiceovers for animated movies. She and her partner Matt Roth, also an actor, have listed their four-bedroom home in Valley Village, California. We don't often see much of a real estate deal in Southern California but this might be one. According to the Real Estalker, the couple purchased this home for $360,000. It's currently the most expensive home in Valley Village, listed at $1.925 million.

Medway Plantation, Estate of the Day

Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, Medway Plantation dates back to 1686 and its main house is the oldest masonry structure in South Carolina. The home was rebuilt in 1704, added on to in1855, and completely renovated in 1929. What you are paying for with this house is approximately 6,728 acres of lakes, woods, and trails. The property is surrounded by land that is protected by easements for traditional land uses.

The main house has a living room with 10-foot ceilings, heart-pine flooring, and wainscoting. The dining room has cypress-paneled walls and the commercial-grade kitchen includes a pantry. There are a total of six bedrooms including a master suite with a fireplace. The property has four guest houses, three staff houses, indoor and outdoor pools, a boat landing, a lakefront lodge, a 12-stall horse stable, a greenhouse, a double avenue of oaks, and traditional formal gardens. The listing pictures hint at the scope of this huge property. A video tour is after the jump. It is listed with William Means for $19 million.

UPDATE: Thanks to Eric for pointing out that this home is located in Goose Creek, South Carolina!

Clay Aiken Lists His North Carolina Home

clay aikenThe Real Estalker led us to the news that Clay Aiken is leaving his North Carolina home behind. The American Idol star bought his home in Cary, North Carolina in 2006 for $2.361 million. The six-bedroom home is on over six acres inside a gated community. The home measures an impressive 9,392 square feet and has a large home theater, professional kitchen, bonus rooms, recreation room, exercise area and a marble foyer with a curved staircase.

Aiken has moved on and the home is bare of furniture but thanks to to the Real Estalker's astute commenters we found the videos from a tour he gave local television station WRAL when he moved in. Those videos (posted after the jump) deliver details including the fact that everything in his kitchen has to be blue and silver. The game room in the basement has red cabinets, a retro stainless steel backsplash and a black and white floor. In the videos it is shown outfitted as a 1950s diner-style space where once fellow American Idol contestants Kelly Clarkson and Ruben Studdard competed in a friendly game of pool. Now the bare home theater has just a single row of seats but when Aiken was in residence the lower tiers of the room were stuffed with large bean bag chairs. Aiken also had an "Africa room," a guest bedroom decorated with art he gathered from around the world during his trips for UNICEF. The home is listed at $2.7 million with LaChapelle Properties.

A Mallorcan Romance, Estate of the Day

Today's home, Villa de Rosen, is billed as the most romantic home in Europe. It sits on the dreamy island of Mallorca. The waterfront villa was recently constructed on one of the last remaining front lots in the Bay of Formentor. Gazing out to sea from the teak deck one can imagine standing here centuries ago watching the brave corsairs battle marauding pirates in order to protect their families, properties, and wealth.

Today's home is no blast from the past. It is an ultra-modern luxury retreat. The glass frontage facing the sea reaches a height of just over 21 feet and there is a custom made glass elevator by Schindler to take full advantage of the unobstructed vistas as you travel.
