And these were them: The original sunglasses from Porsche Design. She wore them on the cover of Rolling Stone magazine, she wore them at press conferences, she wore them during recording sessions and when she was on vacation. She's still wearing them, even though they haven't been made in years. But now the German automaker's product design studio is bringing them back as the P'8479, complete with visible gold-tone screws and Beta-Titanium frame. Make no mistake about it, the 80s are back.<br /> <br /> <div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.luxist.com/photos/porsche-design-p8479-yoko-ono-sunglasses-0/">Porsche Design P'8479 Yoko Ono sunglasses</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.luxist.com/photos/porsche-design-p8479-yoko-ono-sunglasses-0/2443084/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.luxist.com/media/2009/11/02_300_p8479a_yokoono_29693_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.luxist.com/photos/porsche-design-p8479-yoko-ono-sunglasses-0/2443085/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.luxist.com/media/2009/11/02_300_p8479a_yokoono_2_29699_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.luxist.com"><img src="http://www.luxist.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Luxist" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.luxist.com/2009/11/12/porsche-design-revives-the-iconic-yoko-ono-sunglasses/">Porsche Design revives the iconic Yoko Ono Sunglasses</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.luxist.com">Luxist</a> on Thu, 12 Nov 2009 10:02:00 EST. Since its creation in 1854, Vuitton's Special Orders department has made bespoke creations (see Karl Lagerfeld's <a href="http://www.luxist.com/2008/11/18/karl-lagerfelds-bespoke-vuitton-ipod-case/">here</a>) to suit the whims of customers willing to pay for the perfect carrying case to suit their whims. For the Red Cross benefit sale, Vuitton created custom pieces for <a href="http://www.luxist.com/tag/DamienHirst/">Damien Hirst</a> (a butterfly armoire), chef Ferran Adri&agrave; (trolley case with knife tray), photographer <a href="http://www.luxist.com/tag/AnnieLeibovitz/">Annie Leibovitz</a> (camera bags), musician and composer Gustavo Santaolalla (instrument case), Vuitton creative director <a href="http://www.luxist.com/tag/MarcJacobs/">Marc Jacobs</a> (dog carrier) and Patrick Louis Vuitton (alligator tool kit), the head of Vuitton's Special Orders department and a member of the fifth generation of the Vuitton family. Each piece was designed by Patrick-Louis Vuitton in collaboration with the celebrity, along with a special Red Cross medical kit trunk (above) with boxes for emergency supplies.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.luxist.com"><img src="http://www.luxist.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Luxist" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.luxist.com/2009/11/09/sothebys-to-auction-celebrity-vuitton-trunks/">Sotheby's to Auction Celebrity Vuitton Trunks </a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.luxist.com">Luxist</a> on Mon, 09 Nov 2009 11:01:00 EST. I hope you have an iPhone.<br /> <br /> Mark Ronson collaborated with Gucci Creative Director Frida Giannini to design this exclusive beaut for the launch of the new Gucci iPhone App, as well as a new Gucci pop-up shop tour called GUCCI ICON-TEMPORARY.<br /> <br /> If you haven't heard of pop-up shops, they're designer stores which exist for just a couple of weeks -- sort of like a trunk show, only it's way more involved, and there's way more<em> money</em> involved, as they open up a whole store. Big name designers have been opening these kinds of stores all over the world.<br /> <br /> GUCCI ICON-TEMPORARY will open up to the public October 24 in NYC on Crosby Street and peddle sneakers for just two weeks. The store will then tour to Miami (December 1st), London (2010) and Tokyo (2010). If you're in the US, one model of the Gucci Ronson sneaker collection will be available only to iPhone and iTouch users who've downloaded the <a href="http://www.gucci.com/us/us-english/gucci-news/iphoneapp/">Gucci App</a> (<a href="http://www.gucci.com/us/us-english/gucci-news/iphoneapp/">click here, it's free</a>). <br /> <br /> The Gucci App also features music playlists by Ronson and Giannini, as well as access to the Gucci Little Black Book, which has "best-of information for hotels, restaurants, bars and clubs in more than 20 major cities around the world. Also included in this section is a list of Giannini's own favorite spots around the world," and the Gucci Music Channel.<br /> <br /> We love it when music and fashion collide.<br /> <br /> "I spent many many years as an avid sneaker collector, so I wanted to make sure these Gucci shoes were truly special, both from an aesthetic point of view and a collectible one," says Ronson. "Frida and I also agreed it was important for there to be a unique musical element to the project, so I'm going to be collaborating with artists, making limited edition tracks for each store opening."<br /> <br /> The Gucci Ronson sneakers will come with their own exclusive packaging and a 12" vinyl record with tracks selected by Mark Ronson himself. Visit the <a href="http://www.gucci.com/us/us-english/gucci-news/gucci-icon-temporary/">GUCCI ICON-TEMPORARY</a> website for more information.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.luxist.com"><img src="http://www.luxist.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Luxist" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.luxist.com/2009/11/03/guccis-new-shoe-available-only-by-iphone/">Gucci's New Shoe - Available Only by iPhone</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.luxist.com">Luxist</a> on Tue, 03 Nov 2009 22:02:00 EST. The pair have collaborated with <a href="http://www.satyajewelry.com/catalog/view_all.php?cPath=115_159">Satya Jewelry </a>on a line of butterfly-themed pieces to raise awareness of a genetic condition, epidermolysis bullosa (EB). <a href="http://www.vogue.co.uk/news/daily/091103-courteney-cox-david-arquette-jewell.aspx">Courtney Cox told Vogue</a> that the couple got involved when the son of a close friend was born with the condition which manifests in extremely fragile skin and recurrent blister formation similar to the look of a third-degree burn. The young sufferers are known as "butterfly children" because their skin is as fragile as a butterfly wing.<br /><br />The Satya Foundation donates 100 percent of the proceeds from the sale of the jewelry to the <a href="http://www.ebkids.org/">Epidermolysis Bullosa Medical Research Foundation</a>, which supports the fight to find a cure for this rare childhood skin disease. Pieces range in price from $24 for a silver pendant to $348 for the gold version shown above.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.luxist.com"><img src="http://www.luxist.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Luxist" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.luxist.com/2009/11/03/courtney-cox-and-david-arquette-collaborate-on-charity-jewelry-l/">Courtney Cox And David Arquette Collaborate On Charity Jewelry Line</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.luxist.com">Luxist</a> on Tue, 03 Nov 2009 21:01:00 EST. Taschen a publishing house originally started in Cologne, Germany 1980 by 18 year-old Benedikt Taschen, who found himself with a huge collection of comic books, has become renowned for being the premier international publisher of stunning art books.<br /><br />Unbeknown to many, hundreds of artists and designers supported Obama's campaign in an unusual way, with their talent at <a href="http://designforobama.org/">DesignforObama.org</a> founded by one of the books editors Aaron Perry-Zucker. This web-site built upon the concept of volunteerism during a history making campaign provided an online forum where artworks could be uploaded and downloaded for free. <br /><br />Filmaker Spike Lee and Aaron Perry-Zucker chose the best of the submissions and have compiled them into a book commemorating the 44th President and the artistic creativity that helped him win the historic election last fall. In addition to curating the artwork in the book, Lee, Perry-Zucker and design historian Steven Heller wrote essays to complement this collection of over 200 pro-Obama posters designed by everybody from renowned graphic artists to those who practice their art on the streets of our cities.<br /><br />If you want to have your copy personally signed by the editors head to Taschen's New York SoHo location where the editors including Spike Lee will be on hand on November 4th, 2009 from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm.</p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.luxist.com"><img src="http://www.luxist.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Luxist" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.luxist.com/2009/11/03/spike-lee-to-sign-design-for-obama-at-taschen-store-new-york/">Spike Lee to Sign "Design for Obama" at Taschen Store New York</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.luxist.com">Luxist</a> on Tue, 03 Nov 2009 16:01:00 EST. Malibu Day/Malibu Pink is a fruity floral with notes of berries, white flowers, vanilla and ambered sandalwood. Malibu Night/Malibu Blue is a moodier scent, an oriental with notes of pomegranate, black orchid mahogany wood, lotus, patchouli and amber.<br /><br />As Anderson <a href="http://pamelaanderson.com/diary/All-Women-Should-Feel-Inspired.html">describes it on her website</a> she's been making her own products for years layering various scents. She says that her goal was to "create a fun, sexy fragrance that really captured the beach with soft, gentle touches in a way that lingers." Starting this month, Malibu Day and Malibu Night are going to retail for $39 (1.7oz) and $49 (3.4oz) at CVS/Pharmacy, Rite Aid, Walgreens, Nordstrom, Sears and other department stores and drugstores around the U.S. Maybe this new line will help pay off some of the <a href="http://www.walletpop.com/blog/2009/10/26/poor-pam-anderson-foiled-by-shiny-tiles/">$4.8 million in debt </a>she has reportedly amassed because of some pricey home renovations.<br /><br />[via <a href="http://www.nstperfume.com/2009/11/01/pamela-anderson-malibu-day-malibu-night-new-perfumes/">Now Smell This</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.luxist.com"><img src="http://www.luxist.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Luxist" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.luxist.com/2009/11/01/pamela-andersons-new-perfume-line/">Pamela Anderson's New Perfume Line</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.luxist.com">Luxist</a> on Sun, 01 Nov 2009 19:01:00 EST. Country singer Alan Jackson, who currently has his Tennessee home<a href="http://www.luxist.com/2009/07/05/alan-jackson-in-tennessee-estate-of-the-day/"> listed at $38 million,</a> has a new lifestyle line. The singer has partnered with the Cracker Barrel Old Country Store on a 40+ piece assortment of lifestyle items available only at Cracker Barrel beginning November 2.<br /><br />The<a href="http://www.alanjackson.com/news.html?n_id=1500"> Alan Jackson Collection</a> includes menswear and womenswear, food items, collectibles, an Alan Jackson Signature Rocker and other exclusive items including a CD. This is the first time Cracker Barrel has developed a complete line of merchandise around a star. Jackson was involved in the creation of the collection and advised Cracker Barrel on what he thought might appeal to his fans. The most expensive piece will be the Alan Jackson Signature Rocker, a solid hardwood rocker made of Dutch Spruce logs harvested in Maine and hand-assembled in Tennessee. Alan's signature is engraved in the headrest and each rocker is numbered as part of a limited edition of 1,700.<br /><br />[via <a href="http://blog.cmt.com/2009-10-23/clothes-jewelry-and-rockers-make-the-alan-jackson-collection/">CMT</a>]<br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.luxist.com/photos/celebrity-restaurants/">Celebrity Restaurants</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.luxist.com/photos/celebrity-restaurants/2215799/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.luxist.com/media/2009/08/81221521_thumbnail.jpg" alt="Sylvester Stallone and Planet Hollywood" title="Sylvester Stallone and Planet Hollywood" /></a><a href="http://www.luxist.com/photos/celebrity-restaurants/1324753/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.luxist.com/media/2009/01/jbuffett_thumbnail.jpg" alt="Jimmy Buffett" title="Jimmy Buffett" /></a><a href="http://www.luxist.com/photos/celebrity-restaurants/719637/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.luxist.com/media/2008/03/79126717_thumbnail.jpg" alt="Robert DeNiro" title="Robert DeNiro" /></a><a href="http://www.luxist.com/photos/celebrity-restaurants/719628/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.luxist.com/media/2008/03/80124792_thumbnail.jpg" alt="Moby" title="Moby" /></a><a href="http://www.luxist.com/photos/celebrity-restaurants/719585/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.luxist.com/media/2008/03/51005634_thumbnail.jpg" alt="Gloria and Emilio Estefan" title="Gloria and Emilio Estefan" /></a></div><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.luxist.com"><img src="http://www.luxist.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Luxist" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.luxist.com/2009/10/24/alan-jacksons-new-lifestyle-line/">Alan Jackson's New Lifestyle Line</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.luxist.com">Luxist</a> on Sat, 24 Oct 2009 19:02:00 EST. Works have been pulled from the <a href="http://www.luxist.com/tag/NationalGalleryofArt/">National Gallery of Art</a>, the Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden and the <a href="http://www.luxist.com/tag/SmithsonianAmericanArtMuseum/">Smithsonian American Art Museum</a> to decorate the building the symbolizes executive authority in the United States. </div>
<p>The <a href="http://www.luxist.com/tag/Obama/">Obama</a> family is definitely leaning modern, with <a href="http://www.luxist.com/tag/Rothko/">Rothko</a>, <a href="http://www.luxist.com/tag/Degas/">Degas</a> and Diebenkorn among the artists represented. They've also included a word painting by <a href="http://www.luxist.com/tag/EdRuscha/">Ed Ruscha</a>. Not wanting to deprive the public of the opportunity to view works on display, the Obamas limited their choices to <a href="http://www.luxist.com/tag/artwork/">artwork</a> in <a href="http://www.luxist.com/tag/museum/">museum</a> storage. </p>
<p>There's now a lot of money hanging from those White House walls. "Red Band" by Rothko, "Berkeley No. 52" by Diebenkorn and "White Line" by Sam Francis together are estimated to be worth between $20 million and $30 million. Throw a piece by <a href="http://www.luxist.com/tag/JasperJohns/">Jasper Johns</a> into the mix - specifically "Numerals, 0 through 9" - and you get a sense of the collection the Obamas have assembled. </p>
<p>Even with access to a collection of that caliber, though, I'd still never take Obama's job. And, there aren't enough Rothkos out there to change my mind. </p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.luxist.com"><img src="http://www.luxist.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Luxist" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.luxist.com/2009/10/10/rothko-diebenkorn-and-degas-join-obama-in-the-white-house/">Rothko, Diebenkorn and Degas join Obama in the White House</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.luxist.com">Luxist</a> on Sat, 10 Oct 2009 19:01:00 EST. And every luxury brand seemed to have a movie star in its ad campaign. Then the recession came along and suddenly a lot of those lines folded and fashion campaign deals went to the models. But could the tide be changing yet again? It looks like some celebrities are turning back toward collaborations with high-end brands. At Paris Fashion Week Lindsay Lohan unveiled her new fashion collaboration with Ungaro. Lohan already has her own leggings line, 6126 and was announced as the new creative director of the fashion house three weeks ago. She has since been working with head designer Estrella Archs on the quickie collection and the two ended the show by strolling out onto the catwalk together. So far the reviews of the 1980s-inspired line have been less than kind. <a href="http://www.marieclaire.co.uk/news/fashion/399674/lindsay-lohan-s-ungaro-debut-panned.html">WWD called it </a>"cheesy and dated" and others took issue with the lines use of sequined heart pasties used not just to cover nipples but as forehead adornment. Neon colors, harem pants and shoulder-baring tops recalled the very worst of 1980s fashion. Earlier this year, my colleague <a href="http://www.luxist.com/2009/08/20/the-fashion-statement-are-celebrity-labels-compromising-the-cra/">Kristin Taylor Young questioned</a> whether or not celebrity designs made a mockery of fashion, clearly in this case many people think the answer is yes.<br /><br />Lohan might not be the only one to step into high fashion. Today the <a href="http://www.dailymail.co.uk/tvshowbiz/article-1217980/Sarah-Jessica-Parker-set-new-face-fashion-label-Halston.html">Daily Mail reported</a> that Sarah Jessica Parker may be the new face of Halston. Sarah Jessica Parker also had a clothing line "Bitten" which has shut down. She may front the Spring 2010 campaign for US fashion label Halston with the ads set to appear around the time "Sex and the City 2" opens. Parker's design chops are a little more advanced than Lohan's so if she decides to step back into the design studio hopefully the results will be a bit more promising.<br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.luxist.com/photos/lindsay-lohans-ungaro-fashion-line/">Lindsay Lohan's Ungaro Fashion Line</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.luxist.com/photos/lindsay-lohans-ungaro-fashion-line/2338398/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.luxist.com/media/2009/10/91396684_10_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.luxist.com/photos/lindsay-lohans-ungaro-fashion-line/2338397/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.luxist.com/media/2009/10/91396648_10_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.luxist.com/photos/lindsay-lohans-ungaro-fashion-line/2338396/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.luxist.com/media/2009/10/91396701_10_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.luxist.com/photos/lindsay-lohans-ungaro-fashion-line/2338395/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.luxist.com/media/2009/10/91396581_10_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.luxist.com/photos/lindsay-lohans-ungaro-fashion-line/2338394/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.luxist.com/media/2009/10/91396773_10_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.luxist.com"><img src="http://www.luxist.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Luxist" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.luxist.com/2009/10/05/lindsay-lohans-ungaro-fashions/">Lindsay Lohan's Ungaro Fashions Widely Panned</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.luxist.com">Luxist</a> on Mon, 05 Oct 2009 20:02:00 EST. The lot also includes a New York Area Emmy Award for Outstanding Informational Program in 1976-1977 and three Emmy Honorary or Nomination plaques presented to Sills. Sold as a single lot, it has an estimate of $1,000 to $1,500.</p>

<p>Born in Brooklyn, Beverly Sills was catapulted into international stardom singing Cleopatra in New York City Opera's landmark 1966 production of Handel's Julius Caesar. Acknowledged as "America's Queen of Opera," she appeared on the cover of Newsweek in 1969 and Time in 1971, and traveled to the world's leading opera houses as an ambassador for American talent. In 1975, she made a triumphal Metropolitan Opera debut as Pamira in Rossini's The Siege of Corinth, receiving an 18-minute ovation. Retiring from singing, she became Director of the New York City Opera (1979-1989), then Chairman of Lincoln Center (1994-2002), and finally Chairman of the Metropolitan Opera (2002-2005).</p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.luxist.com"><img src="http://www.luxist.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Luxist" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.luxist.com/2009/10/04/beverly-sills-estate-to-be-sold-at-doyle-new-york/">Beverly Sills Estate to be Sold at Doyle New York</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.luxist.com">Luxist</a> on Sun, 04 Oct 2009 11:02:00 EST. The bottle is adorned in vibrant colors with a festive theme and a nod to Smith's signature stripes. It's also designed to echo Evian's latest youth-oriented ad campaign, "Live Young". Smith's design is the third in a series of designer bottles commissioned by the classic spring water from the <a href="http://www.luxist.com/tag/FrenchAlps/">French Alps</a>, following one by <a href="http://www.luxist.com/tag/ChristianLacroix/">Christian Lacroix</a> in 2008 and last year's model by <a href="http://www.luxist.com/2008/10/09/evian-teams-with-jean-paul-gaultier/">Jean Paul Gaultier</a>. Smith's bottle comes with five different collectible caps. "Youth is not just a question of age, it's also a question of attitude," Smith notes. The bottles are available for pre-sale now on <a href="http://www.ShopEvian.com">www.ShopEvian.com</a>, and will make their way to fine dining establishments and gourmet retailers nationwide beginning in November.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.luxist.com"><img src="http://www.luxist.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Luxist" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.luxist.com/2009/09/24/paul-smith-limited-edition-evian-bottle/">Paul Smith Limited Edition Evian Bottle</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.luxist.com">Luxist</a> on Thu, 24 Sep 2009 10:02:00 EST. WWD speculates that she could earn up to $20 million over the next three years in the deal. Beyonce's large fan following and tremendous popularity may add a boost to the celebrity fragrance market which has <a href="http://www.nydailynews.com/lifestyle/fashion/2009/09/10/2009-09-10_celebrity_fragrances_are_stinking_up_the_perfume_industry_with_slumping_sales_re.html">been slumping recently</a>. Johnson already has her own hotel of sorts, the warm weather escape <a href="http://betseyville.com/mapsd.htm">Betseyville </a>and this isn't her first foray into interior design. For a peek at what the future might hold for the Plaza we can check out Johnson's own New York City apartment which was for sale a couple of years back. <br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.luxist.com/photos/betsey-johnsons-pink-palace/">Betsey Johnson's Pink Palace</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.luxist.com/photos/betsey-johnsons-pink-palace/528896/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.luxist.com/media/2007/12/betsey8_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.luxist.com/photos/betsey-johnsons-pink-palace/528895/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.luxist.com/media/2007/12/betsey16_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.luxist.com/photos/betsey-johnsons-pink-palace/528894/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.luxist.com/media/2007/12/betsey12_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.luxist.com/photos/betsey-johnsons-pink-palace/528893/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.luxist.com/media/2007/12/bestey2_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.luxist.com/photos/betsey-johnsons-pink-palace/528892/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.luxist.com/media/2007/12/betsey7_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.luxist.com"><img src="http://www.luxist.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Luxist" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.luxist.com/2009/09/15/betsey-johnson-to-design-plaza-suite/">Betsey Johnson To Design Plaza Suite</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.luxist.com">Luxist</a> on Tue, 15 Sep 2009 01:01:00 EST. Banks said she's learned from past shows, especially when it comes to trusting the insights she developed in the fashion industry. "It's more honest. There's nothing worse than sitting there and pretending" ignorance while a guest delivers tips she could share herself.<br /> <br /> And to do so, Banks, who appears on <a href="http://www.forbes.com/lists/2008/53/celebrities08_The-Celebrity-100_NameHTML.html"><em>Forbes</em> magazine's 2008 Celebrity 100</a> list of the rich and famous, launched her online magazine the same day that her natural hair made its debut. <em><a href="http://www.wwd.com/media-news/#/article/media-news/fashion-memopad/memo-pad-tyras-title-then-we-take-berlin-obervers-baby-steps-2256075?navSection=media-news">WWD</a></em> reported that <a href="http://tyrabanks.com/"><em>Tyra: Beauty Inside &amp; Out</em></a> -- which she's dubbed a "magaline" -- will share her expertise. "I'm really interested in helping women take control of their futures, take control of their destiny. One of my lines in my manifesto on the website is to be the CEO of your own life, be in control of your own life," Banks said.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.luxist.com"><img src="http://www.luxist.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Luxist" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.luxist.com/2009/09/09/tyra-banks-launches-online-fashion-magazine/">Tyra Banks Launches Online Fashion Magazine</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.luxist.com">Luxist</a> on Wed, 09 Sep 2009 06:02:00 EST. I was there to see Hershberger in action, which was a real treat, because cuts with her run $800, so I likely won't be a client anytime soon. Note that this doesn't mean I wasn't secretly hoping she'd pull me from the audience for an impromptu fix of my style. Alas, that didn't happen, but Hershberger did demonstrate the product on a few models. The video of the event is on <a href="http://www.sallyhershberger.com/">Hershberger's homepage</a> now.<br /><br />Luxe Layers is easy just to use -- just a few pumps, rubbed in your hands, then spread throughout your hair, provides thermal protection/prevents against heat damage, seals against color wash-out, protects against the sun and environmental aggressors, and blocks humidity and static to minimize frizz and flyaways. It's made from a proprietary complex of cationic polymers, natural cellulose, and amino acids, is blended with silk and cashmere extracts for internal strength with superior smoothing and long-lasting styling effect. It's alcohol-free, not tested on animals, does not contain animal products or drying solvents, and is non-silicone based, so it won't weigh down even fine hair. Hershberger says it also helps blow-outs last longer.<br /><br />Luxe layers (<strong>$18.00</strong>/5 oz.) is just one of Hershberger's <a href="http://www.sallyhershberger.com/styling.html">full line of products</a>, all reasonably priced. You can get her <a href="http://beauty.hsn.com/sally-hershbergers-luxe-layers-trio_p-5598775_xp.aspx">Luxe Layers Trio</a> on HSN, or just try my new favorite, <a href="http://sallyhershberger.com/styling_genius.html">Genius Spray Wax</a>.<br /><br /> Seeing the product demonstrated live was much better than Hershberger just telling us about it. You can catch Hershberger on HSN doing just this on September 8 at 1 a.m., 8 a.m., and 7 p.m., and on September 9 at 3 a.m. and 7 a.m. To see her demonstrate other products, check out her <a href="http://sallyhershberger.com/video.html">styling tips videos</a>.<br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.luxist.com/photos/sally-hershberger-intros-luxe-layers/">Sally Hershberger Intros Luxe Layers</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.luxist.com/photos/sally-hershberger-intros-luxe-layers/2263899/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.luxist.com/media/2009/09/luxetrio_thumbnail.jpg" alt="Luxe Layer Trio" title="Luxe Layer Trio" /></a><a href="http://www.luxist.com/photos/sally-hershberger-intros-luxe-layers/2263900/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.luxist.com/media/2009/09/sally-final-(high-res)_thumbnail.jpg" alt="Sally Hershberger" title="Sally Hershberger" /></a></div><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.luxist.com"><img src="http://www.luxist.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Luxist" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.luxist.com/2009/09/07/sally-hershberger-intros-luxe-layers-hair-stying-gel/">Sally Hershberger Intros Luxe Layers Hair Stying Gel</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.luxist.com">Luxist</a> on Mon, 07 Sep 2009 22:02:00 EST. Most of them are in Europe or the Far East. Colonel Muammar Gaddafi wants to add Libya to that list, and this is what he's cooked up to do it. Called the Libyan Rocket, the car was designed to solve the problem of high instance of road deaths in the north African country. Gaddafi's people say it's the safest car ever made, but don't go into any details to back up the claim. Still, the Colonel's revolutionary government is building a plant in Tripoli to put it together. We've heard of stranger things, but not many.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.luxist.com"><img src="http://www.luxist.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Luxist" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.luxist.com/2009/09/03/libyan-dictator-designs-worlds-safest-car/">Libyan Dictator Designs "World's Safest Car"</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.luxist.com">Luxist</a> on Thu, 03 Sep 2009 15:03:00 EST.
