Forbes is pretty spot-on with their newest list though there are some discrepancies. Ivanka should definitely be number one, hands down no questions asked. Number eight, heiress to the LVMH fortune is rather unfortunate looking. And who knew Julia Louis-Dreyfus is the daughter of a French billionaire? I had no clue. Feel free to post your thoughts in the comments section. And Ryan from gorillamask puts it best, "preserve your sanity, just look at the first nine."

Forbes List - Billionaire Heiresses originally appeared on Luxist on Fri, 01 Jun 2007 16:03:00 EST. I'll be reviewing it and then posting a contest to give it away; more details to come next week.

I attended ZAP's Grand Tasting in Austin this past week and had a great time, many thanks to Deidre, Julie Ann, and the ZAP staff for their hospitality. Expect to see a detailed post with my favorite Zins sometime soon.

Women in their late forties shouldn't wear white 7 For All Mankind jeans, especially ones that are skin tight.

I went to Fleming's for drinks with a co-worker and was quite impressed by their scotch selection. For a steak place that's know for their wine list, their single malt list rivals most upscale bars.

We've covered Forbes' lists in the past, but this ... this is a new one. Forbes' list of "Most Exotic Brands of Weed" not only draws a comparison between fine cannabis and fine wine, but goes on to list the per gram price of some of the hardest to come by types of ganja. Standouts include Chemdog ($35 / gram), one of High Times' top ten from 2006, and Mass Skunk ($25 / gram), which, let's face it, just has a really cool name. All of this, however, makes me wonder - are Forbes writers members of NORML?

Another Forbes List: Marijuana originally appeared on Luxist on Wed, 02 May 2007 12:03:00 EST. Pretty dead on if you ask me. Forty bucks a bottle for water because its glass is studded with Swarovski crystals. It comes in blue and another color, and we covered the regular bottles a few months ago, read the original post here. Personally, I don't mind buying Evian, but I see no practicality in buying a glass water bottle (that means you too, Voss). It may have a bit of cool factor for a party or wedding or something, but on a day-to-day basis, I'll stick with good old plastic.

Bling H2O Special Editions, A Bit Too Much? originally appeared on Luxist on Fri, 16 Mar 2007 19:10:00 EST. And while you can own a share of the 280 Alysia for about $11,000,000, that doesn't seem too practical for casual use. Enter Barton and Gray. They aim to take the hassle out of yacht ownership. Barton and Gray commodore Lyman Perry puts it best, "It has been said that the finest way to boat is to have friends with a yacht, Barton & Gray Mariners Club are your friends with yachts." More on my interview with Douglas Palmer Gray after the jump.
Continue reading Interview: Barton and Gray Fractional Mariners Club

Interview: Barton and Gray Fractional Mariners Club originally appeared on Luxist on Tue, 13 Mar 2007 09:02:00 EST. The only experience I have with a radiator (the warming your house kind, not the keeps your engine cool kind) is on that episode of friends where the knob breaks off and Rachael and Monica's apparent gets real hot. So when I saw this radiator shaped like a spider web, I thought "man, when I get one of those homes at the base of Lionshead, I've got to get one of those damn things." Too bad it's only a concept.

The Web Radiator originally appeared on Luxist on Sun, 04 Mar 2007 16:07:00 EST. The idea is that you fold out your window in to a wee sized balcony and when you're done, return to the separation of keeping the outside out. Plenty of photos are available on the designer's site, but no price, and way too much flash coding.

Bloomframe - a window balcony originally appeared on Luxist on Mon, 26 Feb 2007 19:03:00 EST. Those tail lights aren't for everyone, but I think they're stunning. The Quattroporte is the new "it" car around my neighborhood, maybe the new Granturismo will overtake the 6 series much like its big brother put an end to the CLS's reign. And the specs are as superb as the looks: near 50/50 weight distribution, 400hp V8, the works. Unused space in Walt Disney World's Cinderella Castle has been turned in to the "Suite of a Million Dreams." Here's how it works: at some random place at one of the Disney properties at some random time, a winner will be selected to spend that night in the suite. Though it's said to be random, I'm sure there are some very wealthy fathers out there who would do anything for their daughter to crash in the castle, and Disney would probably welcome these suggestions. But, if you read the press release, notice that the estimated value of the one night stay is only $587. Some more pictures after the jump, including the most uncomfortable looking toilet ever.

Many thanks to reader John for the tip!
Continue reading Cinderella Royal Castle Suite

Filed under: Luxury Travel & Hotels

Cinderella Royal Castle Suite originally appeared on Luxist on Tue, 23 Jan 2007 11:04:00 EST. And guess what, it's a Samsung! Another shocker: they beat their own record. This is getting a bit ridiculous. None-the-less, the Ultra Edition 5.9, and it's a whole millimeter thinner than it's predecessor. Will this spur up rumors of easily broken phones like with the last one? Will it ever be available in the States? Will anyone care?!
The omission of words can be just as powerful as the addition of them. So when I say that I'm going to go enjoy a cocktail at a bar while the college superbowl whatever-it's-called is going on, I mean exactly that. What a perfect time to go out and enjoy a nice glass of scotch and a cigar; the bars won't be crowded because Johnny Sportsfan will be watching some team that isn't UT play some other team. Meanwhile, it's the perfect time for me to sip a glass of Johnnie Blue Label and not be bothered. While it may seem like a superficial semantic argument, it also reflects on our society turning away from classic bars to hybrid drinking establishments - some with their 60" plasma TVs with the ESPN logo burned in to them, and others filled with loud techno music and females who apparently haven't paid for a drink in their life. Though the cocktail was born in either Boston or New Orleans (I'd prefer to think Boston) and was perfected in the time of prohibition, it's hard to find a quality bar in America these days. I can think of two (VBar, Cohiba) in this city, maybe a half dozen in the metropolitan area I'm originally from (the bar at Mac's is a personal favorite), but that doesn't really count for much. Sure, there are plenty of real bars in New York, but The City has plenty of everything. I was in Paris a couple of years ago, and it was hard to not find a nice bar. I just think it's sad that the place where the cocktail was born no longer honors it, and those who truly take pleasure in what they drink are forced to do so with people who drink for sport. So, do any Luxist readers care to share what real bars still exist that they frequent?

"Bar" Does Not Mean "Sports Bar" originally appeared on Luxist on Wed, 10 Jan 2007 19:22:00 EST. Is the front as ugly as the sedan?"
This isn't really about the sedan, nor my couch. It's all about the 2008 Rolls-Royce Phantom Drophead Coupe. The front doors are suicide. Seriously, how cool is that? The color is gorgeous, as is the grill and bonnet. Really, my only complaint is the wood slats just behind the rear seats. That kind of makes it look like a swim platform on a nice yacht tender. Under that chromed bonnet is a 453 horsepower 6.75 litre V12. Check out AutoBlog's hi-res photo gallery for all the pics of the $407,000 ride you can handle.
Filed under: Luxury Cars & Autos

2008 Phantom Drophead originally appeared on Luxist on Sun, 31 Dec 2006 11:05:00 EST. It's not huge - like HDTV huge - but it is pretty cool. And it'll be easier for me to mail than a TV. Remeber that Rubik's Cube I reviewed this past Spring? It was neat and super heavy and now you can win your very own! All you have to do is leave a comment about your favorite Christmas (or Hanukkah) gift. Pretty simple. I'll pick the answer I like best and contact the winner. You have until sometime on December 30th. Good luck, and many thanks to Roman at Zontik Games for the hookup.
Zontik Games Rubik's Cube Giveaway originally appeared on Luxist on Fri, 22 Dec 2006 12:03:00 EST.
Tiffany's released their men's gift guide today. It includes ... well ... everything that Tiffany's sells for men. Ranging from the whimsical buy/sell/hold die to the 18k gold Atlas watch, there's nothing really new about the collection other than it being titled "gifts for men" to take advantage of the holiday season. I've always been a fan of Tiffany & Co, and most of their designs are fairly classic, so even though it's mainly an advertising ploy, it's worth a look if you've still a male on your list to shop for. It's also of note that there is a women's guide as well.

Tiffany Gifts for Him originally appeared on Luxist on Thu, 07 Dec 2006 10:02:00 EST.
Down here in the great state of Texas, we don't really do radiators. If it gets cold, turn your fan off. If it gets really cold, add another blanket to the bed. That's the extent of heating the home. So the concept of a really sweet looking radiator struck me as odd. Then I remembered reading a post from Deidre earlier this year about something similar. Turns out, there are three posts on fancied up radiators other than this one. None-the-less, Tubor's designs range from really weird to mirror-finished LED lit (pictured). Most of them look cool, and I would think that if your conditions required a radiator, these would make sense to look into.

Designer ... umm ... Rather than fidling with a puzzle you could stash 40-120 gigs worth of whatever in your new gadget. The price is unannounced, but I'm going to side with Engadget on this, probably expensive. If you really need one, you can nab a pre-sale spot or just keep your current portable drive inside your coat pocket for roughly the same effect.

[Via Engadget]

Leather Wrapped Portable Harddisk originally appeared on Luxist on Wed, 29 Nov 2006 10:05:00 EST. Uberreview.com has posted a list of the "11 Coolest Toys on the Planet." Among them are a temporary tattoo gun, a remote-control flying Superman, and my favorite, Frigits. It's like Marble Madness for your fridge. The upper end of the price spectrum is reserved for Laser Bowling, a home arcade machine, and a pretty cool DNA kit (complete with hilarious caption), but The Blue Car appears nowhere on it.. I'll trade you three super high end scrabble pieces for some Frigits. The 12 pound hand-painted car arrives in it's own crate with gloves as to prevent getting your nappy paws on the four layer paint job. All this detail from a company with an unimaginative name (they're German, maybe it doesn't translate well), Magic Super Toys, can be had for just under 2000 Euro. I played rough with my Hot Wheels when I was a kid, so I wouldn't think too hard about getting one of these for your little boy.
Filed under: Luxury Cars & Autos

Not an Ordinary Toy Car originally appeared on Luxist on Wed, 29 Nov 2006 07:06:00 EST. Maybe it's the idea that it's half naked. Or maybe it's just that with the outer shell peeled back, we can see what's under there. Either way, there was a cutaway Audi at the Paris Auto Show and AutoBlog has shots of every angle. The reading on AutoBlog is a little technical, but then again, so is the machine. It sure would be nice to be in Paris right now. The post is short because the pictures speak for themselves.
Filed under: Luxury Cars & Autos

Half an Audi R8 originally appeared on Luxist on Tue, 03 Oct 2006 08:08:00 EST. Personally, I'm not a big fan. The back end kind of looks like a cartoony hermit crab because of how the tailpipes are rigged, but that's not the issue. It's those wheels. They're too Transformers-like. Other than the rims and the exhaust, I'm down with the design. Check it out.
Filed under: Luxury Cars & Autos

Ferrari P4/5 Photos originally appeared on Luxist on Sun, 01 Oct 2006 11:03:00 EST. Exciting, right? No, not really. By now we've become jaded to the size wars because it seems like once a week we see a new product that tops the last one. But what really gets me is the fact that you'd need to be sitting around 15' away from the set to best enjoy it's picture, and that's just silly for the majority of homes. Alas, this is Luxist and we don't think like the majority of consumers. So be prepared not only to shell out for the set (it'll probably be cheaper than the rest of the "world's largest" title holders because it is RPTV) but for a construction company to take the roof off your house and drop this beast in via helicopter.

Another "World's Largest" TV originally appeared on Luxist on Sat, 30 Sep 2006 08:05:00 EST. It's actually the Monogram Wine Vault. The appliance (if you dare to call it that) includes a touch-screen monitor that can pull information on what you have in stock, what you had in stock, and what you would like to have in stock. Depending on the configuration, the cellar will hold 1100-1200 bottles of your favorite vins.

Ultimate Wine Cellar originally appeared on Luxist on Wed, 20 Sep 2006 10:02:00 EST. Sister site HDBeat has some awesome deets on the McIntosh (note the spelling - we're talking about the audiophile one, not the computer one) unveiling their new processor and projector at CEDIA. That's right. McIntosh did something video. Don't worry, hell didn't freeze over. All the classic Mc stuff is there - top notch build quality, simple but stunning good looks and something else ... oh yeah, bank account draining price. Over $46k for both; but that gets you 1080p DLP, dual scalers, four (yes, four) HDMI inputs and six each of component, composite and S-video.

[HDBeat via Engadget]

McIntosh Video Processor and Projector originally appeared on Luxist on Sun, 17 Sep 2006 11:01:00 EST. It's just a dirty concrete floored part of the house that we keep our vehicles in. Sometimes we don't even do that, we stash our crap in the garage and cars outside - and that makes no sense at all. Some of us have showroom floored garages but that's a very small percentage. How would you go about spicing up the first area of your house you see when you get home? Organize all that junk, get yourself one of those nice Snap-On tool chests or something. But that will only go so far. I was introduced to Vault, a startup that seeks to change how we perceive our garages. They manufacture a full line of cabinets to facilitate a garage makeover. They're based in Oregon and use stainless steel throughout the construction of the cabinets. The units can be configured to include space to hang clothes, standard shelves and drawers, or even to hold your cigars. Click through to check out some more pictures and notice the color choices - not just Craftsman red anymore.

Continue reading Spice Up Your Garage

Filed under: Decor, Luxury Cars & Autos

Spice Up Your Garage originally appeared on Luxist on Thu, 14 Sep 2006 07:03:00 EST. BMW officially announced their hydrogen powered 7 series today and the numbers on it are pretty impressive. It's got a hybrid gas/hydrogen V12 that get 260 horses that can get the ride up to 143 miles an hour. Bimmer says it's the "first hydrogen-drive luxury performance automobile for everyday use." The first question that popped into my mind was "will it hold the obnoxiously large Grey Goose bottle?" To my surprise, the answer on the FAQ was yes because of some sort of riser that goes in the base (which by the way stays on the whole time, seriously reducing the awesomeness effect of having a bottle wrapped in ice). No word on price, but I can't imagine that they'd charge any more than $40 for what is basically a two litre bottle cut in half.

Ice Jackets originally appeared on Luxist on Tue, 12 Sep 2006 19:02:00 EST. Scheduled to debut in Paris late September, the rear wheel drive coupe has a six speed coupled with a 4.7 V8 from Maserati that cranks out 450 horses and 347 pound feet of torque. I'll stop rambling because the pictures pretty much speak for themselves, but I would like to point out that Autoblog commenter Art pretty much sums it up: "Instant classic on the DOT."
Filed under: Luxury Cars & Autos

The Alfa Romeo Beauty originally appeared on Luxist on Tue, 12 Sep 2006 07:05:00 EST. Bimmer has solved this seemingly trivial issue by sending real time traffic updates to owners of certain models' GPS systems. If there's a wreck or a traffic way closure, you'll know and can plan accordingly or have the guidance system take you around the problem. Pretty cool.
Filed under: Gadgets, Luxury Cars & Autos

Bimmer Traffic System originally appeared on Luxist on Fri, 08 Sep 2006 07:01:00 EST.
Did anyone else notice that the title character in Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby wears a whole lot of Façonnable?

I saw a 2007 Mercedes S 550 parked next to a Maybach 57 the other day at Ghost Bar and those two cars have quite a bit in common - the rear ends are almost (almost) identical.

You can probably stop reading here and click the read link to look at the pretty pictures. If you simply must read on, you'd be happy to know that our cohorts over at Autoblog have some thrilling news about the successor to the already popular Gallardo. The newest iteration is in the form of a split pea soup green sportscar on 'roids with a bit too much carbon fiber. No word yet on if the Lambo seen here is a prototype or the production model, but we'll see soon.
Filed under: Luxury Cars & Autos

New Gallardo Sexyness originally appeared on Luxist on Thu, 07 Sep 2006 08:04:00 EST.
