This bag is pretty enough in the silver version, but it really shines in bronze. It is sleek and simple and literally glows with good taste. With a gold-tone frame, the bag sports a kiss-lock closure and a barely-there logo detail on the horseshoe appliqué. I think this soft and subtle look is a refreshing change from the blinding metallic handbags we've seen so much of lately. $1490.

This bag is so unusual that you are either going be completely enthralled by it or wonder what in the heck they were thinking. I think I love it. It's flirty and fun with a double row of eyeleted leather ruffles in a gorgeous deep red. With all that going on, the rest of the bag is appropriately simple in every other way. Other than those pesky charms hanging from the shoulder strap, that is. Also available in an equally pretty black version, the bag sells for $1950.

I am not sure why this bag could not have been done in leather, but it wasn't. The material is PVC over nylon mesh and the only leather on this bag is found in the trim. Still, it is an eye-catching pattern and a totally retro look. With just a touch of gold-plated brass hardware where the straps fasten to the bag, the busy pattern is all you notice. The bag is open at the top and features gold nylon lining and interior cell, utility and makeup pockets as well as a key clip. Also available in white, the bag measures 14 &frac12;"H x 9"W x 5"D and sells for $450.

In neutral taupe with pretty tortoise buttons, the Julia features a striking yet subtle snakeskin print. I love the extra wide straps and the matching trim along the top. I love me some leopard print and this one does it up all nice and shiny in patent leather with grained leather trim. From D&G's Spring 2008 collection, the Miss Pocket satchel is a busy little bag with surprisingly few pockets considering the name: a large zippered pouch pocket on the front, a flat slide pocket on the rear and interior zip and cell pockets. The close-set polished silver chain and leather straps are a nice touch and give the bag a certain swing. The shape is softly structured and the gusseted sides prevent it from looking too boxy. With rolled leather side handles and nice flat base, the bag is as practical as it is beautiful. Available for pre-order for $2195.

This bright bag from Michael Kors definitely scores some points for originality. A simple alligator-embossed leather clutch in a fresh lime green is dressed up with a masculine, gold-tone...watchband? I guess it is better than skulls and bracelet charms, but where is this taking us? If leftover watch parts can find a home on high-end handbags, can cuff links and tie tacks be far behind? It is a lovely bag that probably would have been best left unadorned. $3,000.

My taste in handbags is a bit too traditional for this style, but those who lean modern will appreciate this unusual clutch. Obviously the animal print trend is alive and well in the handbag world. I, for one, hope it stays that way. Designers keep finding new and interesting ways to employ these exotic patterns and I never tire of them. This one takes the jungle print uptown with gold accents and the result is stunning. The metallic gold leather trim highlights the pretty curves of the flap and the detachable chain strap adds even more elegance to the shimmery satin bag. I am, however, just about over the charm trend. This one sports five, hanging from a gold ring on the side of bag. Measuring 11"W x 6"H x 2&frac12;D, the bag sells for $1390.

I am usually not a big fan of purple, but this dark violet shade is kind of nice. The grained lambskin just glows and you know it is going to feel as nice as it looks. I've been waiting for this rusty orange color to become popular again. It is one of my favorite hues, but it seems to have had a difficult time overcoming the gaudy reputation it earned in the 1970's. Less shocking than red and brighter than brown, the color just glows with warmth and understated style. On this tote, that color is the focus, with very little hardware to distract from the gorgeous distressed leather. Inside, the bag is lined in similarly-hued canvas and is divided into two compartments with a center zip pocket. Measuring 14"W x 12"H x 7"D, it has an 8" strap drop and sells for $545.

Have you ever seen metallic leather look so much like actual metal? The trim on this bag has such a beautiful shimmer to it and it really pops against the dark brown leather. I just got a brand new laptop that came complete with an ugly bag in which to carry it around. I immediately started looking for a more fashionable replacement and came across this one. I like it first and foremost because it isn't black. The wine-colored suede says "professional" without being boring. Trimmed in chocolate leather, the bag sports the same functionality as the ugly bag with tons more style. In addition to a couple of handy side pockets on the exterior, the inside features several slip pocket compartments, pen and pencil holders and room for a 15" wide laptop. If I had to choose just one bag to carry for the remainder of my days, it would be a bag like this. Large, sturdy and neutral. The vintage leather looks like it would just get more beautiful with wear and the wide strap promises to be comfortable when the bag is loaded up. The hardware is over-sized, but the brass blends nicely with the warm tone of the leather. On the back side, it has a handy open pocket and the interior features several more. Lined with Tattersall fabric, the bag measures 10" x 10" x 4" with a 14" strap drop. $448.

Michael Kors is big on the buckles these days and I can see the attraction. The gold-tone hardware adds a dash of shine while giving the appearance of being completely functional. Of course, this big gold buckle is purely decorative but it looks lovely with a wide patent leather strap threaded through. The bag itself looks pretty simple, but there are actually three different leathers involved in the patchwork pattern - patent, matte and suede. The bag fastens with a magnetic snap and is also available in a brown/black version. $395.

I usually find Dooney and Bourke bags to be a little stiff and boring. This one isn't all that exciting, but I like it for its simplicity. Clean lines, the sparing use of silver-tone hardware, and the neutral color make this satchel perfect for every day use. It looks quite rugged and up to the job of toting around the stuff you just can't leave home without. The cowhide leather is water repellent and the bottom has protective feet. Measuring 10&frac12;"H x 17"W x 8&frac12;" D, the bag features internal zip and cell phone pockets. It is also available in a pretty blue, but I think we've seen enough pretty blue bags lately. $395.

The Muse bag has been around for a while, but I had not seen it in anything other than leather before. This one is dressed in grey felt and accented with with black leather details. It is a sharp look that is all business yet still feminine. Contrasting top-stitching highlights the "Y" pattern of the fabric and a brass-tone padlock includes a key for locking up the valuables. The double handles are wide and flat and have a 17" drop and the bag itself measures 14&frac12;" wide x 9'' tall x 4&frac12;'' deep. The words "bling bling" conjure images of something gaudy and over-the-top, which I don't think is appropriate for this lovely little bag. Obviously vintage-inspired, the 'fabric' of this metal-frame bag is created from linked Crystals, forming an open weave of jewels over the silver lining. More crystals dot the handle and the clasp is set with a large Swarovski Crystal accent. Measuring 8"W X 5&frac12;" D, this perfect party bag sells for $900.

At first glance, I thought this bag was made from some sort of soft brown fabric. I was way off - this gorgeous bag is actually created from richly textured metallic leather. The flap front sports a leather woven gold-tone chain with a coin detail and the chain strap can be worn full length or doubled. Inside, the bag features one large compartment lined in suede with one patch pocket. Measuring 10" H x 14" long, the bag sells for $548.

Despite the ruching, this large bag still maintains a pleasing shape and looks sharp with the contrasting top stitching. A casual toggle detail cinches the top, just above a tiny stitched stick figure, a Beguelin signature touch. Several leather 'leaves' dangle from the side adding another dash of whimsy and the whole thing hangs comfortably from a single shoulder strap. Handmade in Italy, the bag sells for $1640.

How's this for different? Pleated and embroidered creamy soft leather is topped off with an unusual gold-tone coiled handled. My first concern was the possibility of getting pinched in that springy handle, but the bit of stitched leather wrapped around the top should prevent that. The frame bag has a large resin 'jewel' for the closure and the interior is lined in logo jacquard. Take a simple satin bag and cover it with humongous black crystals and this is what you get. The stones themselves are stunning, but seem a bit heavy for the petite bag. But the black chain handle is perfect and the matching logo plaque is just discreet enough. The bag closes with a press stud and features two inner pockets. $1995.

Not taking into account taxes and any future payouts, Forbes has crunched the numbers and figured out which celebrities had the biggest paydays in 2007 and what they did to earn all that money.

Topping the list is George Lucas. What did he do in 2007 to earn the top payday? His windfall actually was set in motion in 1997, when Hasbro awarded him $170 million in stock as part of a licensing deal for his Star Wars toys. This year, he sold it back to them for $200 million.

The list includes some other surprising names as well. Who knew aging rocker Sammy Hagar was raking it in? And the fact that Oprah Winfrey had an exceptional payday isn't all that surprising, but the fact that is was the result of one her less successful ventures is. Quite a few made a killing in real estate and others made big bucks just doing their jobs.

These celebrities might not have made the most money this year, but they beat everyone else when it came to earning the most cash in one fell swoop.

Petite and funky, the Virginie is made from nappa leather swathed in Mourmansky fur. In contrast with the luxurious softness of the bag, the silver-tone handle is beautifully done in a solid, but not chunky, design. It is fluffy and fun and might even help keep you warm on a cold winter night. It has a zip top closure and measures 7.02" x 7.8" x 2.34" and has handle drop of 7.8". $675.

I confess that most of Cynthia Rowley's bags don't do much for me - but this one I like. Softer and more elegant than most of her collection, this metallic clutch features three muted leathers stitched together in a simple pattern. The snap closure has a pretty gold-tone catch that matches the chain link strap. Inside, the bag is lined and features plenty of pockets: zip, slip and cell. Measuring 16&frac12;"L x 7&frac12;"H, the bag sells for $345.

I don't know about you, but handbag names intrigue me. With the softly pleated dove white leather, is this bag meant to resemble an upside down chef's hat? Or is there some food connection that I am unaware of? Either way, the bag is cute and relatively understated. Top-stitched with contrasting black, the bag features very little in the way of hardware: silver tone handle attachments and the required Fendi logo charm. The shoulder straps have a 9" drop and the bag itself measures 21" W X 11"H X 9"D. With a zip top closure, it is lined in canvas and features one interior zip pocket. $1360.

It may be small, but this bag just glows with chic style. It's a small-scale hobo that looks dainty and elegant swinging from the chunky chain strap. Cinched and rich, the black snakeskin has a shine to rival the chain and it all comes together beautifully. It's a dressy little bag, but I can still see it classing up a pair of jeans. £759.00.
