The $60 Million iPad-Controlled Gulfstream G550 Private Jet
Spain-based industrial designer Stefan Radev has given the $60 million Gulfstream G550 private jet a makeover, including cool iPad controls à la P. Diddy's Solemates superyacht. From the exterior livery to the seating arrangements, Radev's design scheme is simple, elegant and ergonomic. It's also full of eco-friendly touches like bamboo woodwork.
Natural light is emphasized in the airy interior design with oversized oval-shaped windows and neutral tones complementing the bamboo in an open-plan layout equally suited to working or lounging. iPads and iPods also control the various climate and entertainment functions for the passengers. It's just a concept at this point, but easily made real with enough money.

I really hate it when uninformed people publish articles and make people that read it uninformed. Maybe this rich a***hol* could float me a couple bucks. Haven't been able to afford my mortgage payment for the last 5 months....since I been out of work for a year!

In this economy when, it seems like the weathy have declared war on the middle class, I really don't want to see a muti million dollar plane. With all the cutbacks in education, health care and social services, are they, the wealthy, out of touch with reality. Instead of buying expensive play toys, why not try to help the less fortunate.

public begging? it's the american way
mark2win Apr 4th 2011 7:04AM
Thranker, when you say the 'rich' have declared war on the middle class, I'm sure you must be talking about the rich. elitist, democrats in government- especially Obama, whose policies have cost this country millions of jobs.

I'll just take me one, thank you very much! Oh, wait a minute. Can people hack into iPods and iPads and such? Like, could somebody hack into your private jet and make it do a roll? On second thought, never mind. Cancel my order.

Ok, this is just a bunch of hype.
It certainly is a nice plane, but it is no more controlled by an Ipad than my coonhound is.
I am a pilot and a former military avionics technician. Ipads do not fly aircraft.
First off it does not have an interface other than a docking connector and while there is the capability of building a compatible docking connection into the aircraft, there would also have to be a computer between the Ipad and all of the flight controls.
That compuuter would be the one actually flying the aircraft. The most an Ipad could do is issue commands to the aircraft controlling computer that would be translated into real control inputs.
What an Ipad is used for in aviation varies but they do have apps that store sectional charts (maps), approach plates for instrument pilots, moving maps and weather information if you have the properly configured Ipad.
Check this out. I guess I'm kind of a geek.

alfredschrader Apr 3rd 2011 7:25AM
To Monster: Here is the insider's scoop (from a farmer). Africa has the Congo river which is the second largest source of fresh water on earth. This river is surrounded by millions of acres of agricultural land - enough to feed the entire earth, valued at 10 trillion dollars ($10,000,000,000,000.00). What they need, nobody can give them....Al-

This has to be the ugliest 550 I've ever seen and thank goodness I don't have to fly it! As for one poster's comments about noise, General Dynamics who is the parent company of Gulfstream Aerospace Corporation incorporates the sound reduction technology they incorporate in submarines - it is the most quiet cabin you'll ever ride in. High Speed Cruise M.85 for trips under 10 hours - 10 to 12 hours duration M.82. Long-range cruise M.80 and certified to 51,000 ft although 47,000 to 49,000 is about as high as you'll ever go! Enjoy!

I don't know what everybody is all upset about, if a person can afford a plane like that, then don't hate on them. I'm sure, that if a person really wanted one of those gadgets, they could probably work all their life, just to afford the dream of having one. If you can afford it in the here and now, more power to you, and I'm happy for you. But, I have a question, how much do you give to help a starving person, or when was the last time you helped someone that needed it, or better yet, when was the last time you took a person that was living on the streets, with no job, and found something for them to do at your company so that they could become fully self-supporting? Those that can afford to own or ride in this type of plane needs to answer these questions, and then think, what else could I do with my money, to help those less fortunate than I.
