Dream World Villa on the French Riviera, Estate of the Day

If you are willing to empty your wallet and bank account, the place to live is La Californie in Cannes. Dotted with exclusive Belle Epoque and contemporary villas, this is probably the most beautiful place to live in the balmy, tropical region.
Years ago, many people dubbed the area La Californie because it reminded them of the hills behind Los Angeles. The villa has been totally refurbished with a Ralph Lauren sensibility. Owned by a Danish football (soccer) agent with excellent taste, each room and garden is in superior condition. And it also boasts panoramic views of the Mediterranean, which is less than two miles away.
One of the gems of the six bath, seven bedroom property, is a luxurious pool, complete with a pool house and summer kitchen. The house is set back from the road and entered through a pair of majestic iron gates. As you might expect, there is a caretaker's apartment and parking for five cars. The price is €16,900,000.

I was beginning to wonder what I was going to do with $304 Million (OK, it's only $115M after taxes) after I win tomorrow's Mega Millions lottery. This would be an awesome start!

I recently went on line to get quotes for Homeowners insurance policies. My existing carriers rates have continued to escalate and I wanted to make sure they were competitive. As a result of my inquiry I was contacted and provided quotes by several sources. This company: ( Http://bit.ly/HomeInsuranceAgents ) provided attractive quotes. I will tell you that they saved me a considerable amount of money. Homeowner premiums went from $888.00 to $409.00 I thought I could save money but never imaged that much.

SO IF WE WILL NEVER HAVE A CHANCE TO OWN IT, WHATS THE POINT IF THIS ARTICLE?

The view is fantastic. The landscaping is impeccable. Rest of it, ho hum.
Antlers over the fireplace reduces it to Redneck status. I would not buy it, but if I did, I'd level it incluing raise the sewage & water supply plumbing and then build a nice new home...Al-

Is this a replacement for the EOTD?
Could you please make these listings so that all the pictures show up at once?
Deidre's postings never did say that the EOTD was ending, merely that SHE was leaving.
But it would appear, that the EOTD's are gone (at least for now). Unfortunate.
JLS Mar 24th 2011 3:11PM
I anticipate Luxist to be leaving altogether - these changes came about after they purchased Huffington Post (which I also frequent several times a day for news and this kind of thing).
Luxist would be a redundant effort if the kept it. The HP version of property that is of interest is full blown and much better.
It's just a done deal here.
JLS Mar 24th 2011 3:17PM
The interactive situation we had with Deidre wherein she actually read comments is no more. Typically, authors usually post the piece and are gone without reading comments.
Try Huffington Post-it's what AOL purchased to replace this and it is better. Much more content. Go to HP and click on Real Estate.
I think it's just a matter of time until this website is unavailable altogether.

Enough already about who's writing EOTD and how the post is formatted. Can we all agree that this a spectacular house?
BTW, no mention in the listing if it includes the furnishings. At this price, I would hope everything except personal artwork is included, especially the moose antlers above the fireplace.

It would take Americans to call the area 'La Californie...' Please!!! The arrogance and ignorance are boundless, I knew, but this takes the cake - FYI: the area is called the Corniche, it has been inhabited for approximately ten (at least recorded) centuries.
Admittedly a matter/question of opinion, the 'Ralph Lauren sensibilities' nearly sent me over the edge! Mr. Lipschitz has no sensibilities whatsoever, is a totally pretentious boor, and the only decent design coming out of his store was done by underpaid and mistreated designers to whom he never gave credit. Really bad quality to boot. As a reminder, Mr. 'Lauren' as he calls himself, was sued (and lost) a few years ago for copying a French designer. They (the French) do take it a little more seriously.
And now for what I really think (LOL)...

I do see boundless arrogance and ignorance here, but all of it seems to be coming from the commenter. THAT is what really takes the cake. It takes real ignorance to leap to the erroneous conclusion that Americans MUST be responsible for naming this section of the French Riviera. And it takes real arrogance to use such an erroneous conclusion as a basis for an unprovoked attack on an entire country and its 300 million citizens.
In fact, the residential neighborhood of 'La Californie' was named by the French themselves - not by any Americans. Had Americans named it, the State's name would probably have been spelled correctly. The name "La Californie" is not new to that area either. It dates back to the days when local residents desired to promote their hometown as the perfect resort, and to that effect they publicly compared it to a place that was then well known for its beautful, healthful climate, i.e. California. In fact, there's a Belle Epoque mansion in that neighborhood that has been known since it was built as "Villa La Californie." Again, the name has nothing to do with Americans or their alleged ignorance.
Please indeed!
"FYI: the area is called the Corniche."
Really? By whom? There are three old corniche roads running along the Cote d'Azur - the Moyenne being the one nearest to Cannes - but I have never once heard anyone refer to the region itself as "The Corniche." Never. Ever. The term "corniche" refers to a certain kind of mountain road, and that's the only way I've ever heard it used by the people there. And even if there were in fact some individuals who chose to use the title, "The Corniche" in referring to the region around Cannes, it would be totally irrelevant to the name "La Californie" and its origins. That name only applies to one particular residential neighbood on the east side of a hill above Cannes. As far as I know, nobody here has claimed that the entire area was called "La Californie".
If you're hellbent on bashing America, You might at least have the decency to do it based on actual facts rather than building your case on silly assumptions or outright fabrications,
