Porsche 918 Spyder Heading to Production for $845,000

At the Geneva Motor Show last year, Porsche wowed the crowds with the 918 Spyder. A conceptual successor to the Carrera GT, the 918 Spyder showed what a hybrid could be in the extreme. Greeted by positive reactions, Porsche approved the model for production, and has now announced that it is accepting early orders.

The production version packs a 4.0-liter V8 engine and a pair of electric motors, working in unison to deliver 718 horsepower for a 3.1-second sprint to sixty and an impressive 78 miles per gallon. Only 918 examples will be offered, each fetching $845,000.

It will take Porsche a few years to build and deliver the supercar to its buyers around the world, and to keep buyers satisfied in the meantime, the German automaker is offering a special edition of its current performance flagship. The 911 Turbo S Edition 918 Spyder (available in coupe or convertible) is essentially the same as the existing model -- right down to the $160k starting price -- but features some unique touches inspired by the new Spyder.

WE HAVE TRIED , CULE DONT MAKE ME ANGRY , AN TOO LOW IS HOW FAR THEY NEVER SHOULD GO, I HATE CRIME WHEN WAS THE LAST SHIPMENT OF GOODS TO THAT FACTORY AS MUST OF BEEN A GOOD PRICE DEAL NICE OF FACTORY THEY ALL ALL OVER THE WORLD HAVE THEY OWN OR OTHER COUNTY HELP TO GET OWNER OF GOODS TO MAKE PRODUCT, STILL FEW HAVE BESTED THAT BOLT RULE OF WHAT HISTORY METAL WAS ABEL TO DO TRIE AN RIM YET THE ROAD HAS TO LAST THEY DID NO MAKE IT FOR A FEW PERSONS IN THERE OVER PRICE CAR, SOME THINGS WERE LEFT ON PAPER AS TEST OF OTHER PERSONS WERE THEY ARE APPLIED IN USE WATER ORBIT SPACE ON OR OFF ROAD AN THE SIZE RULE CHANGES , LOOKS AS A COLOR RIM MAY BE NICE TO HELP SELL A RED OR PURPLE SUCH THINGS MAY BE NEON AN STROB LIGHTS 8 INCH 15 INCH AMPED SOUND AN A ROLL CAGE

john,what other buys ( a prius) when you can afford it then id like to hear what you have to say till then just enjoy it and get with the times ,78 mpg- that hybrid car is insane and eco friendly ,,,,,,,,,,,Joshua learn how to write because i cant understand what the heck you are saying

78 mpg. Really? Anyone who knows anything about cars will tell you that is a load of crap. No car with a 4.0 liter V8, even with the help of electric motors can do that. And even if that were possible, which it's not, anyone who can afford to pay a million bucks for a car is certainly not going to worry about gas prices. Hybrids are a government conspiracy set out to trick stupid people into thinking they're helping the environment. This car might be cool, but the fuel figures are going to be much lower when it comes out.
