Fairy Tale Castle on the French Riviera, Estate of the Day
A medieval stone castle in Bar sur Loup combines the best of both world's: an impressive historic structure with stunning gardens and the glam life of Nice and Cannes nearby. A snap 35 minutes from the Nice International Airport and you're in the postcard perfect 18th century village of Bar sur Loup, known as the "town of orange trees." The current owner of this castle must sell as he is moving to Hong Kong. Just five years ago, he found the property in terrible shape, fell in love with it, and painstakingly restored virtually every centimeter. All five bedroom suites, several living rooms with working fireplaces, a study, and hobby room are all in pristine condition. The owner even reclaimed materials from other French chateaux to be sure that no "foreign" or inappropriate materials interfered with the building's integrity. Most appealing, in particular, are the pool and pool house. Add to that a wine cellar, caretaker's cottage and parking for ten cars. The original castle dates back to the early 18th century but its gardens surrounded by olive and fruit trees, rose bushes, and jasmine appear to be much older. The price is €5,900,000. That is a lovely place. West of St. Paul de Vence, but not strictly on the Riviera. It is not near the coast. South of France, yes. Riviera, no. Riviera is the beach and the area close to it. Stil wonderful.

It does suit my personality and temperament; haven't seen all the rooms, but what's shown is very tastefully done; if I live here, I probably would not want to go anywhere; refreshingly exquisite and beautiful (garden and all) (hopefully, it comes with amazing bathrooms too); If I win the lottery I would buy it in a hearbeat.

Loved it all but I would add lighting. One chandelier in each room isn't enough.
Cool place. Sold!

After some of the extremely expensive and FUGLY houses/properties I have seen on these blogs, THIS one is DROP DEAD FANTASTIC...classy, understated, truly luxurious, and somehow still "cozy." Ahhh, what "intelligent" money will buy!

i guess this is where the French Fairys hang.
nice crib.
place is South France, not strictly the
Riviera coast, did you see how many zillion
flowers they planted? takes a small nation
of real gardeners to just trim each week.
i like.

Magnifique. If you're in the market for something not quite so swell but still in France and very comfortable with fantastic garden and orchard, visit my house at BuyMyHouseInFrance.com and leave a note in the guestbook. A toute a l'heure.

It is a maverous complex. This is a real connaiseur of how to enjoy life after your
holding of certain financial wealth being. I like very much & envious of the living style that European people live. If we can own a piece of property like this.

To quote Liz Lemon: I want to go to there.

It looks like the castle that they used in the movie Happily Ever After with Drew Barrymore.
swalthew May 20th 2011 5:53PM
And I could swear it is the house in A Good Year with Russell Crowe. The outside anyway - oh, and the pool.
