Lee Street, Estate of the Day

Today's home is one of the priciest on the market in the Boston area. This French-style, three-story brick residence in Brookline, Massachusetts was designed and built between 1929 and 1930 by renowned Boston architect William T. Aldrich. The main home is on over three acres with manicured lawns, flower beds, shrubs and mature deciduous and coniferous trees.
The home has 20 principal rooms in the main house and there is also a separate one-bedroom guest house. The home has been thoroughly renovated to combine its original, formal style with modern amenities. The most unique feature in this home might be the light-filled indoor pool pavilion which is reached via an underground passageway that also serves as an art gallery. The pavilion offers additional entertaining area and a caterer's kitchen. Overall there are a total of 10 fireplaces, hardwood floors, hand-painted murals and other finishes, and ornate moldings. This home is listed at $15.75 million with LandVest.

Stunning! The perfect blend of period pieces to reflect the home's history with contemporary pieces for today's lifestyles. Has to be the most awesome pool house ever on EOTD!

I wonder do they really live in and enjoy these homes! To me they leave something to be desired as HOMES....

Typical. Nothing special. The kitchen is bland and unremarkable. Pool house is just okay to me-we've seen better here. Grand decor in the living room which is beautiful but that's the only room I liked. I think with a good decorator this home could be lots better.
It's missing continuity.
Say something nice-the exterior is very stately and nice. Property well kept and full of trees which is always wonderful.

I thought they had done a fantastic job of preserving the historical feel of the home until they got to the last 3 pictures. Those rooms look so foreign when compared to the others, they may as well be pictures from another house. Then again I suppose someone with the kinda of money it would take to buy such a house, would have people manning the kitchen for them and probably never see it. The landscaping is perfect, and seems a beautiful and peaceful place.

This appears to be the mansion they used in the film Meet Joe Black...that sunken indoor pool room seems so familar....
hoxsie454 Mar 11th 2011 8:08PM
No - the mansion in Meet Joe Black was the Aldrich Mansion, Warwick Neck, Rhode Island. Hard to believe, but Aldrich is much more palatial than this Brookline home.

Uhm ... Only $15.75 million for it? As soon as I get a substantial pay raise, I just might buy it.

The house is amazing, UNTIL you get to the modern kitchen. So strange to put that look into such a classic home.

Sold, if you can guarantee me a membership in the Country Club of Brookline which has to be located nearby. Absolutely one of the top 5 golf courses in the country.

I bet this is one of the homes owned by those over-paid teachers or some other public employee. I can easily see how bad our economy is by looking at this house and am so glad we are all sacrificing. Meanwhile, let's cut funding for the elderly and poor who need heating assistance, let's cut education funding, let's cut every damn thing and for sure let's NEVER increase taxes on multi-millionaires and corporations. That crazy Senator Sanders from Vermont wants millionaires to pay like a 4 or 5% surtax to help the deficit? They can't afford that! Why should they help out the nation? Just because their corporations get all kinds of government bailouts, subsidies and other forms of corporate welfare? Maybe the Koch Brothers will buy this for Scott Walker to move into when he gets recalled by the people of Wisconsin.

This house is probably owned by one of those overpaid public school teachers or some other public employee. I guess the economy is in really bad shape when someone hasn't already snapped this bargain up. Good thing we millionaires, billionaires and corporate CEOs haven't had to pay our fair share in taxes for decades! Crazy old Vermont Senator Sanders thinks he is going to get us to pay like a 5% surtax to help with the deficit! Ha! Deficit reduction needs to be done by taking away heating assistance from the poor, education funding, the EPA...useless stuff like that. Maybe the Koch Brothers will buy this place for Scott Walker to move into after he gets recalled.

Anna, when you earn the money, you can give it to whomever you please. People like you always want to give away things that weren't yours to begin with.

Where I live, the price for this beautiful home and land would be closer to 30-40 million, etc. One needs a large inheritance to maintain such a lovely estate. Reminds me of the Hearst Castlee but smaller and more intimate.
