Luxist Phototour: The Collection of Slash at Julien's Auctions

Last month I mentioned that entertainment memorabilia auction house, Julien's Auctions, would be hosting an auction dedicated to the property of legendary guitarist and musician Slash, I knew I had to go see it in person. The sale includes a variety of famous guitars, memorabilia, vehicles and personal furniture and décor from his Hollywood Hills home and the sheer breadth of material is quite stunning. Slash, it could be said, might be a bit of a rock-and-roll packet. Guitars include a custom Stravinski Fender Stratocaster estimated at $3,000-5,000; a B.C. Rich Red Mockingbird guitar estimated at $2,000-4,000; and two versions of Slash's very own Gibson and Epiphone Slash Les Paul signature model guitars in Tobacco Sunburst estimated at $4,000-6,000.

The star of the show is his 1966 Corvette equipped with a big block 427 cubic inch V-8 engine with 435 horsepower, 4-speed manual transmission which could bring $90,000-$100,000. The car was the first "good car" Slash bought as his star began to ascent in the late 1980s as the popularity of Guns N'Roses took off.

The Corvette is being shown with a 1995 black and red fin-shaped panel custom Slash-played Les Paul electric guitar with mahogany neck marked "Corvette" in mother of pearl with three engraved metal plates reading "1960," "Fuel Injection," and "283." This guitar is estimated at $1000 to $2000.

The studded leather hat that Slash wore at Super Bowl XLV when he jammed with Fergie is for sale with an estimate of $2,000 to $4,000.

The sale features lots of jewelry. Most of it is silver and much of it skull-covered. Shown above is a diamond-encrusted guitar pendant designed as a guitar topped with "SLASH," entirely set with 360 near-colorless full-cut round diamonds graded H-J color and VS clarity and 24 cognac colored diamonds graded medium brown and VS clarity, totaling approximately 18 carats. It carries an estimate of $20,000 to $30,000.

Less rock star but still intriguing is Slash's collection of Southeast Asian furniture items.

A room set up as a game room displays art, neon signs and a South Park Pinball Machine estimated at $2,500-3,500.

Other decor pieces include a pair of monumental red suede conversation sofas ($3,000-4,000) that can be paired with silver and black beaded skull pillows ($200-300).

The sale includes a variety of photographs and posters. Slash's 2007 Harley-Davidson VRSCDX Night Rod Special shown above in the foreground is estimated at $8,000 - $10,000.

A carved Indonesian outdoor swing is estimated at $4,000 - $5,000.

A lot of leather belts includes this STU Boys belt with a skeletal hand buckle. The lot is estimated at $300 to $500.

My thoughts exactly: What's the reason for the auction?
Money troubles? Did he die without my hearing about it?

Looks like a yard sale from the NASCAR crowd. I think I would probably look cooler if I had never actually seen any of that cheesy stuff.

I wounder if he knew how stupid he looked wearing this stuff. Maybe he was just laughing all the way to the bank.
A funny thing about a life of self indulgence, when it's over there is only an eternity of feeling the suffering of the ignored.
