Designer Conversations: Design Gurus Talk Luxury, Good Design and More

What do some of the world's top designers think about the future of design? We've rounded up a few videos with interviews from some of our favorite names. In the video above Alberto Alessi, head of Alessi and one of our favorite designers of charming home decor, ponders whether or not good design is a luxury.

In the video above from 2008, designer Yves Behar, beloved on this site for his contributions to the world of lighting design, considers whether Swiss design is a relevant term anymore. Does it belong to the Swiss, or is it simply part of a global whole. Is there such a thing as "designers block?" How does designer Thom Browne, creator of elegant men's style keep inspired? Here's a hint, cocktails help.

And finally, Andrew Spade, designer for the popular Jack Spade line, contemplates what good design really is. For Spade, it all depends on the objectives of the design. While Spade has a certain reverence for flamboyance (he mentions David Bowie's Ziggy Stardust years), for him, as is shown in his designs, good design is the classic match of form and function.
