World's Fastest Open Superyacht for $40 Million

The awesome $50 million Mangusta 165 superyacht that Sting was spotting playing around on the other day is currently the world's largest open yacht as well as one of the fastest. By 2013 however Italy's AB Yachts plans to produce one just as big that's not only less expensive but a hell of a lot faster. The AB166 (above), which has been listed for sale via global online luxury marketplace JamesList for about $40 million, will be capable of a neck-snapping 48 knots. The 166 gets its eye-popping power from not two but three engines – MTU M93L's delivering 4,600 hp each for a total of 13,800 hp, along with AB's signature water jet propulsion system. The spacious, ingeniously-arranged interior offers five luxurious en suite guest cabins with the owner's suite lording over all with two balconies and exclusive access to a private pool area at the front of the yacht. Five crew cabins make up the service accommodation. Check out the gallery for renderings.

Put me down for (2) of them. Will I be able to outrun the pirates in a pinch? Throw in a couple of 20mm cannons with laser sights. Oh yeah, stock the fridge with some chilly ones.

nice boat but it will not be nearly as fast as The Kiana owned by the late Tom Gentry, now that was fast for 100 plus feet

I'd paint it slate gray and equip it with a couple of Phalanx guns to turn pirate skiffs into confetti. My flag would be a portrait of my extended middle finger with two crossed swords beneath it. I'd need an avatar for dead Somalis to paint on the hull as I racked up the score. And a bulletproof glass tank to hold the vodka.

now most of you know that it is the pirates pesky little toys that make the difference
not the speed of their boats... c'mon... their boats are falling apart... on the other hand phalanx most certainly is a deterant...

Fit it out with a couple of 22mm cannons 2 fifty caliber machine guns and two torpedo tube forward and you could play with the pirates in the middle east near Somalia.

You'll need to watch your fuel burn at high speeds or you'll be giving the yacht over to the Pirates! At 50 MPH it could easily be burning 600 gallons an hour! A high speed hull can't carry too much fuel - maybe.... 10,000 gallons @ 7lbs. per gallon means full your dragging along close to 70,000 pound of fuel? You'd need to be friends with the closest carrier group's Admiral to bum some fuel from if your crazy enough to run around Africa's coast. Keep it in the Northern Med. & be the flasher and dasher scene stealer!
