For someone in their 20's, are there certain life expenses (utilities, groceries, rent, etc.) that are better to pay on a credit card rather than with cash/check/debit card?

In the earlier stages of life we have more oppurtunity to take chances, but how does one decide what is best to do with their savings? Do you pay down all your higher intrest debt? Do you start a small business that you always wanted? Do you save it in the bank for a rainy day? Do you invest in the market? Do you spend it all on a wedding? Well life does hit us quickly so please help!

Do you recommend setting up a life insurance policy even though if I am in my early 20's (I am engaged right now with a wedding date next year)?

I am not expert but I think someone in their 20's is an excellent candidate. I wish my father had invested in some type of policy for me when I was born. It's for that reason that when my son was born I immediately took out two policies. One is a 20 year paid up for life policy in which I pay a premium for 20 years and then the policy is pain in full permanently. I did it so as to set him up in a good position for when he has his own family.

My grandpa always said to "pay yourself first," but what exactly did he mean, do you think? I would appreciate if you could list some examples as to how I could follow his advice and yours, too. Thank you, -Male, Age 25, Phoenix, AZ

These days I'm confused by the plethora of investment products out there - they include stocks, bonds, precious metals, derivatives like options - How can you tell when is the best time to invest in stocks, for example, without leaving yourself penniless by a sudden downturn? I've always had this problem of being risk averse only to miss out on good opportunities.. Thanks. Aiman

What is the single best thing that a twenty something can be doing with their money as they begin their life?

Would you lend money to a relative? Where is the best place to keep your emergency fund? Should you still tip 20% for bad service? What's more important, paying off debt or saving for emergencies?
These are the questions I wrestle with everyday as a 23 year old.

Despite a few strong interim bull markets in 2003 and the past two years, the "buy and hold" approach to stock ownership seems to have taken quite a beating in the last 12 years. Now that stocks are somewhere near their peaks of the late 90s/early 2000s, what is a person like me, a saver in his late 30s who invests in broad based stock mutual funds, to do to maximize gains in the long run?
