Red Carpet Preview: The Beautiful Jewels of Gilan

Everything we are hearing about the Oscars this season is that this could be the most exuberant Oscars in years. Bold colors, dramatic gowns and the return of dramatic jewelry. We've seen it already at other awards shows, stars wearing hundreds of thousands or even million-dollar gems. But more than just big pieces, we're seeing intriguing jewels, bright colors and unusual settings.
Luxist popped into the Gilan suite at the Four Seasons Beverly Hills to see some red-carpet worthy stunners. With the Academy Awards just a few days away many pieces were out being evaluated to see if they would work with the celebrity gowns but we got to see a few of these intriguing pieces.

The tagline for Gilan is where "eastern magic marries the western modernity." The pieces are inspired by heritage of the Gilan brand. It was founded in 1980 in Instanbul by brothers Muharrem and Ferhan Gilan, who followed in the footsteps of their great grandmother who had been head seamstress to the opulent Ottoman Court. The brothers used their passion for design and luxury to help make Gilan a top jewelry brand in Istanbul.

One of the signature looks for the jewelry house is the Heritage collection which has a unique setting. Each rose-cut diamond is housed in a silver setting which naturally oxidizes. The setting is backed with detailed engraving work on yellow gold. The setting enhances the brilliance of the diamond and the intricate detial of the back of the setting is an additional treat for the wearer, akin to turning over a fine rug or weaving and finding that the back is nearly as neat and beautiful as the front.

Gilan jewelry is available at their boutique in New York and will soon be sold at Saks Fifth Avenue in Beverly Hills.

Gilan's rose cut diamond earrings are a hit with celebrities. Amber Heard was spotted wearing a pair of Gilan earrings to a movie premiere recently.

These amethyst and diamond earrings would work well with a strapless gown.

These cascading earrings with diamonds drops and pave-set spirals recently appeared in Vogue.

The Gilan pieces also often feature cabochon cut colored gemstones which contrast well against the faceted diamonds.

IF ALL THE MILLIONAIRES IN THE WORLD DONATED 1 MILLION DOLLARS TO THE IRS ( OR THE EQUEVALENT IN OTHER COUNTRIES) ONCE EVERY 3 YEARS, THEN MAYBE WE WOULDN'T SEE HOMELESS AND STARVING PEOPLE. MAYBE EVEN FREE TO SEE DOCTORS. AND MEDICAL AND DENTAL. REMEMBER THE PART OF THE SONG THAT SAYS "THE LAND OF THE FREE"? IS THAT WHY EVERYBODY AND THEIR DOG WANTS TO LIVE IN THE "LAND OF THE FREE"?! GUESS WHAT? THE LAND OF THE FREE (IS NOT FREE!!!!!!!! WHEN YOU GET TO THE "REAL" TRUTH, THERE IS ABSOLUTELY NOTHING THAT IS FREE IN THIS WHOLE WORLD. Some of this merchandise is mildly attractive, most however is fashioned with inferior gems, the workmanship is very intricate and high but real value...I think not. The designers are trying to brand themselves into a very rarified range to be in competion with Cartier, Harry Winston, Graff and Van Cleef & Arpels. They fall far from the mark. Plus the so called celebrities who borrow their items are dressed by stylists who for the most part have little taste or stlye....Give me an old fashioned movie star like Elizabeth Taylor , she owns her jewels and they are the finest....
