Honestly, historic properties can be a real headache. A friend of mine has just finished restoring an absolutely beautiful one and can't wait to get back into a nice, warm modern house.

I've had the same experience. Wayyyyy over budget and looking back at it, I would not do it again. Old houses have mastered a way to suck your bank account dry.

My advice is, if you tackle an old home thinking it will be worth so much when you're done, TRIPLE what you think it will cost.

Hidden disasters. That's what everybody I know has found in them.
