Kate Moss Moves Into Her New $12 Million Mansion

Who buys the eye-popping properties that make the grade as our Estate of the Day? Kate Moss just snapped one up for a cool $12 million – London's historic The Grove, which we featured back in April – and is spending millions more on renovations. The luxe brick and timber property in Highgate, built way back in 1688 with additions in 1930, has a literary pedigree; author Samuel Taylor Coleridge lived there for a number of years. These days the likes of Sting, Jude Law and Sienna Miller live next door. The nine-bedroom, four-story residence has 6,700-sq.-ft. of living space, wood paneling, seven fireplaces, a wine cellar and a large landscaped garden. [cont'd]

She can have it. I recognize the historical value - sort of - but I fail to see what value other than that there is here.
Doesn't look like it's worth 1 mil to me.
I will admit to knowing absolutely nothing about property in the UK. As me about France instead...lol.

Can you say "ugly".
Waste of $12 million....if you ask me.

Whose idea was it to put this article under "Help for unemployed homeowners", I know I am struggling to pay my mortgage every month, and then someone has to flaunt how a model buys a house for 12 million??? I just don't get it!
indiedavid Jan 28th 2011 9:47AM
She will be in foreclosure within a year

Beautiful...but obviously the interior needs to be brought up to the times a little bit with the stated renovations. Plus the location is perfect. It'd cost a helluva lot more in NYC, but for London, I think she paid $2-3mm more than necessary, especially since she'll likely be putting that amount into renovations...

This hag could have bought a perfectly beautiful property for $5 million; I have to wonder how many fresh water wells could have been dug in Africa or how many decent shelters could have been built in Haiti with the remaining $7 million? Yes, she 'earned' her money and can spend it in any way she chooses. I think her decision is shameful.

Oh, boy. $12 million, huh? Wow, does that drug addict has-been really need such a big space for her and her b/f? She weighs about 70 lbs., lol, she could survive in a closet!! I know its her money and she can do what she wants with it. It would be nice if she did something a bit less self-fulfilling with some of her money, like help out in some way, shape or form. Party room, uh-huh, ok, translated to drug den. Whatever!!! Who cares. I'm just bored at work so I'm commenting here.

I CANNOT BELIVE SOMEONE CAN BUY A PLACE THAT COST SO MUCH AND NOT TAKE THE MONEY AND BUY SOMEHTING SIMPLE AND GIVE THAT MONEY TO HELP OTHERS THAT NEED IT AND MAYBE BUY SOME HOMES FOR HOMELESS FAMILYS.UNBELIVEABLE
New York Jan 28th 2011 11:06AM
Honestly it looks like a slum lords rental property in NYC. For 12 Million I know she could have done much better. And probably for much less.
charper1957 Jan 28th 2011 12:46PM
And why does any one need 9 bedrooms?
They have nothing better to do in life than waste money.

I'm no fan of this house. I think the decor especially leaves much to be desired. That being said, the price tag doesn't surprise me in the least. I lived in London for several months on business a few years back, and I could not believe how expensive everything was. I made six figures at the time (before getting laid off) and even on that salary I would not have been able to afford the modest city apartment my company set me up in (it was about $6000 USD/month, just for reference's sake). Most of the locals I worked with had about 3-4 roommates. So yeah, even at $12 million USD, the price sounds about right to me.

HEY HOPE THAT HAS MOSS THE HAS BEEN SKANK DRUG ADDICT ENJOYS HER LIFE IN HER BIG UGLY HOUSE. ..... NOW WHAT?
WHAT DOES A HAS BEEN DRUGGIE DO?
SHE WILL MOST LIKELY INVITE PARASITE "FRIENDS" OVER FOR DRUG PARTIES THEY WILL HANG OUT WITH HER TILL THE MONEY S GONE AND THEN THEY WILL ALL BE GONE ALSO. ONCE AN UNEDUCATED MATERIALISTIC MODEL HITS THE DOWN HILL SKID IT GETS UGLY AS THEY NEVER WANT TO LET GO OF BEING THE CENTER OF ATTENTION TILL IT REALLY HITS HOME - ITS SAD. AND NEWER MODELS ARE COMING OUT EVERY DAY!
LOOK OUT KATE YOU AINT NO BROOKLYN DECKER.

What a waste of $12 million. Must be great to have that kind of money to pay for a big dump!
reallytorkedoff Jan 29th 2011 12:31AM
I wonder how much she spent on the vomitorium and the cocaine cooler?
Honestly, historic properties can be a real headache. A friend of mine has just finished restoring an absolutely beautiful one and can't wait to get back into a nice, warm modern house.

I've had the same experience. Wayyyyy over budget and looking back at it, I would not do it again. Old houses have mastered a way to suck your bank account dry.
My advice is, if you tackle an old home thinking it will be worth so much when you're done, TRIPLE what you think it will cost.
Hidden disasters. That's what everybody I know has found in them.
