Valentine's Day Gifts for Men by David Yurman

Valentine's Day is a romantic occasion for both men and women. So why is it that men have always gotten short-changed when it comes to special gifts, especially jewelry? We think the time has come to honor the men in our lives.
Luxist asked David Yurman, creator of elegant jewelry (and the genius behind the iconic cable bracelet), to suggest a few pieces from his extensive men's collection, all of which would make wonderful gifts on Valentine's Day, in addition to any other special occasion.
"I've always felt that jewelry is one of the most personal and emotional gifts you can give your loved one," says designer David Yurman. "Perhaps one of the first pieces I created was a gift for my then girlfriend, now wife and muse Sybil, over thirty years ago. For this Valentine's Day I have designed a unique assortment for men that embody the spirit of the holiday."
If a bracelet is what you are looking for, Yurman offers a unique sterling silver and 18K yellow gold curb chain, which is part of the Exotic Stone Collection. The bracelet is available in a variety of stones, from black onyx ($1,800) to malachite ($2,100) and lapis ($2,500), which can be seen in the gallery below. The bracelets are 6 1/2" in length. The Rubber Weave Bracelet comes in gray, brown and blue, and retails for $295. From the Naturals Collection, the bracelet has a sterling silver sea urchin-texture clasp on a braided rubber bracelet. The bracelets are 8" in length and 8 mm in width.
Another idea is a sterling silver band ring (seen above), which Yurman offers in a variety of styles. The narrow Armory Band Ring ($250) is handcrafted to create a distinctive silhouette that borrows authentic medieval motifs. The Wide Pave Black Diamond Armory Ring is a slightly wider sterling silver ring with a 1.28 total carat weight. Its retail price is $1,400. The Armory Dome Ring is a sterling silver dome ring featuring stippled silver which creates a unique texture inspired by authentic medieval motifs. Its retail price is $325.
If cuff links are more his style, we suggest David Yurman's Black Diamond Two-Row Cuff Links. These stunning cuff links are made in sterling silver with a black rhodium finish, a hammered center and two rows of pave black diamonds weighing 0.32 total carats. Retailing for $995, the cuff links are 1/2" by 2 1/2".
We especially like David Yurman's dog tags. Called the "Tag Necklace", one is sterling silver with black onyx inlay on a 2.7 mm box chain necklace with a lobster clasp. Its retail price is $550. The "Color Change Garnet Tag Necklace" is a sterling silver piece featuring color change garnet, which is one of the rarest gemstones on earth. The basic colors of this unique mineral are blue-green in daylight, and change to violet-red when the stone is under incandescent light. Its retail price is $3,500. The Pave Diamond DY Tag Necklace ($2,160) is a sterling silver tag featuring white pave diamonds on a box chain necklace. It has a 1.15 total carat weight and is 22" in length.
The dog tag collection for men coordinates beautifully with the Women's Tag Collection. The Large Black Onyx Tag Necklace for women is a sterling silver tag featuring black onyx and pave black diamonds. It has a 0.53 total carat eight and is adjustable for 17" to 18". It is also engraveable. Another option is the Small Mother of Pearl Tag Necklace is a sterling silver tag necklace features smooth mother of pearl and pave diamonds. It has a 0.36 total carat weight and an adjustable chain for a 17" to 18" length. The reverse is engraveable. The Pave Diamond Cable Heart Enhancer ($875), from the Cable Heart Collection, is a sterling silver heart enhancer with pave diamonds. The total carat weight is 0.38 and it is also engraveable. The chain is sold separately.
