Although it is true that as a "luxury" brand, you should not have to demean yourself to the level of bashing other brands in any kind of marketing. But let's be honest in this situation, Mercedes and Audi have always had a very great rivalry when it comes to ads. To say that this ad is "bashing" Mercedes seems a little much. To say that Audi is trying to point out their competition and speak to Mercedes owners and try to influence car shoppers who are on the fence or new to a "luxury" class of vehicle, I think is much more realistic.
The auto industry in general is making a big push to advertise in this year's Super Bowl. GM is back after a 2 year break and companies like Cars.com have come back for the 4th time in a row. Like Audi, they have released their commercials early focused on consumer and expert reviews. Maybe Audi can use the Cars.com message to reinforce it's message.
