Old Westbury, Estate of the Day

Newsday's Rich Cribs column led me to today's property, a home for sale in Old Westbury, New York. The home was built in 2003 but the land was originally part of the Cornelius Vanderbilt Whitney estate and the home itself reflects an earlier era. Features include high ceilings with thick molding and handpainted murals of scenic landscapes in the dining room. Flowered wallpaper, chintz, antique rugs and botanical prints on the walls also help give this new home a more classic feel. The seven-bedroom home is on 3.9 acres and backs up to the Old Westbury Country Club golf course. The gardens have an enclosed hot tub, pergola, fountainwall and outdoor kitchen. The home also includes a fully built out lower level which currently looks to be in use as a rehearsal space for musicians. This home is listed at $5.5 million.

Why no pictures of all the bathrooms and no pictures of the kitchen?
I don't see how a dark muted ruby red, navy and white carpets in 3 or 4 rooms go with pastel golds, yellows, etc.

If I bought the place, I'd get an estimate on what it would cost to strip all that white paint off the woodwork and deduct it plust 10% off the offer to buy.

This is the worst decor I've ever seen on EOTD. The flowered wallpaper in the foyer-the peach walls in the kitchen next to the teal and peach chairs drove me nuts. Worst of all are the odd pillars just standing out in the middle of the room. If they are actual support pillars they certainly are placed in a weird way.
Major updating needed inside. The outside is wonderful.

Just my opinion but it tries too hard to be regal on the outside and yet fumbles with the rear 2nd story balcony which architecturally mars the lines and isn't purposeful anyhow.
The inside is vastly too pedestrian for a multi-million dollar house on the grounds of a once grand estate. For $5M in Old Westbury one expects - and can find - interiors which put this one to shame. Many lovely caretaker cottages in that area alone are more rich in their trappings and visual details.
