Today we're taking a look back at some of the year's most amazing penthouse properties around the world.
St. Regis, San Francisco, California.
This rare two-story penthouse with 360-degree views sits atop the five-star St. Regis Hotel in San Francisco has three grand entertaining rooms with 21-foot glass walls and an adjacent 2,000-square-foot terrace reminiscent of terraces that border New York's Central Park. It is listed at $49 million. The apartment was listed at $70 million in November 2008. The 20,000-square-foot residence has both catering and family kitchens, a private elevator, an in-home cinema and game lounge with a wet bar. The penthouse also has a double-height cascading water feature in the grand stair hall. There are six bedrooms, four fireplaces and a garage bay for five or six cars.. There are hardwood floors, an in-home fitness center, sauna, spa and library.

Tribeca Penthouse, New York, New York
This penthouse is one of a kind, a19-room unit with just two bedrooms but spread out over five floors. What would be more bedrooms has been converted into a "work zone" with a reception gallery, office, studio space, study and storage room. The home also has three terraces plus a private roof garden. The master suite takes up a full floor and has a fireplace, bathrooms, skylit walk-in closet, a separate Jacuzzi room and a terrace. The kitchen has an adjacent breakfast room with a fireplace. Other features include 1,000-bottle wine storage, rooftop home gym, a stainless steel/glass staircase and private elevator connecting the floors. One of the most interesting floors is the media room which has a library and a large reading room. This apartment is listed at $28 million by Stephen McRae of Sotheby's Homes.

This Thai-inspired penthouse at the Setai in Miami, dazzled us when we first saw it in June. The multi-story penthouse home is stuffed with endless works of Asian art, custom woodwork, unique furnishings and antiques The home includes a spacious rooftop terrace with pool. Ownership comes with access to the Setai's five-star amenities including valet, concierge, room service, restaurant and bar, fitness center with spa and three pools. It is listed at $27 million.

Abbot Penthouse, London, England
This penthouse in London opens dramatically with a large open area that has a double height vaulted ceiling and leads out to a terrace. A long separate dining room has built in aquarium and is next to the eat in kitchen. Take the spiral staircase to the next floor and you'll find a small pillowed media room leading to a gallery that has access to a private swimming pool. There is a retractable roof above the pool. This home is listed at £10,950,000 pounds or around $16.9 million.

The Citadel, Seattle Washington.
This offering is a two-bedroom fortress in the sky in Seattle. This one has pretty modest square footage (2658 sq. ft.) for the price but what it lacks in space it makes up for in views. The home has views from Puget Sound to the city skyline, port and beyond and wide windows capture the glorious spectacle. The greater part of the home is given over to a wide open space that incorporates the living room, kitchen, dining and lounge areas. This unit is on the top floor of an exclusive downtown high rise and an en suite stairway leads to a private terrace on the building's roof with a spa and grill. It was listed at $6.2 million when we checked it out in May but is now for sale for just $4.999 million.

Palms Place, Las Vegas, Nevada
Need a Las Vegas lair? Today's home might be a gambler's dream, a sky-high penthouse unit in Palms Place. The ultra-modern two-bedroom penthouse is being sold with all its ultra-modern furnishings which include a pool table, leather furniture and large flat-screen televisions. The most "ruler of all I survey" spot has to be the private spa which actually projects out from the building and faces a wall of glass with views of the Palms Casino and the Vegas strip. The home includes large closets and a stainless steel kitchen that looks more like a place for surgery than dinner but this isn't the sort of place you'd cozy up for meals anyway. This home is listed at $4 million.

The Top of the Touraine, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
One of the wildest penthouses we saw in 2010 had to be the adobe penthouse atop a landmark Philadelphia building. The penthouse at the top of the Touraine is a small bit incredible bit of the Southwest designed by architect Adolph deRoy-Mark. The home is surrounded by large gardened terraces with city views. The home was built in 1981 and the terraces are covered with plants and tall Southwest style grasses. The property is a lease-hold estate property and is listed at $2.9 million.

The Claridge, Dallas, Texas
In Dallas you can get three units combine in one huge penthouse with a total square footage of 7,621 square feet. This sprawling home has two master suites and two additional bedrooms. The sky-high palace has beautiful views over the city. The owner appears to have an affinity for the safari, not only are animal prints in evidence but the home includes a variety of exotic taxidermy. This penthouse is in The Claridge, a building which home to many of Dallas' most successful and prominent residents and is known for its luxe amenities. It is listed at $5.5 million.
