Valentino Goes On Display In Singapore

Ruffles, flowing gowns and lots of Valentino red are on display in Singapore as a retrospective tribute to the work of fashion designer Valentino Garavani opens in Singapore. The show runs until February 23, 2011 and features 100 pieces of haute couture including many famous pieces such as the black and white gown Julia Roberts wore when she picked up her Oscar for Best Actress. The show includes Valentino Garavani's early designs to recent creations by current Creative Directors Maria Grazia Chiuri and Pier Paolo Piccioli. Guided tours are available.
The Italian designer founded his own couture house in 1950 and dressed many famous actreses including Rita Hayworth and Elizabeth Taylor. In 1964, Jacqueline Kennedy asked him to design a wardrobe to mark the end of her mourning for her husband. After that she wore Valentino almost exclusively including a dress that she wore for her marriage to Aristotle Onassis. Valentino retired in 2008 and is also the star of an entertaining documentary entitled "Valentino-- The Last Emperor."
