Holiday Shopping Guide: 10 Gifts for Your Man
Shopping for a husband, boyfriend, or significant other can be intimidating for many of the same reasons shopping for dad often is, but you can take at least some of the guesswork out of the process by focusing on gifts that are fun, functional, and really good at doing whatever they were meant to do. And of course if they're also expensive and brag-worthy (like most of our favorite picks below) that's frosting on the cake.
Leather Officer Jacket, $2,195
If you want to buy him clothes take our advice and steer clear of the sweater aisle and set your sites on something like this Leather Officer Jacket instead. Soft dark brown lambskin and clean lines result in a look that's both trendy and timeless and will easily mesh with a variety of personal styles.
Bellroy wallets are sleek, stylish, money-carrying machines with every detail from the thickness of the leather to the placement of the pockets being carefully and intentionally designed. They describe themselves as "a small group trying to improve the way we carry" and their Hide & Seek Wallet is especially interesting for its secret compartment (see it here) that's great for safeguarding or stashing spare cash.
Vittorio J Select Series Tie, $125-$175
For the fashion savvy businessman consider one of Vittorio J's Select Series ties. Created as a result of a factory error these three-fold silk ties feature updated patterns and a slim 3.5" profile and are truly special as only 85 were made, most being one-of-a-kind and with no pattern occurring more than twice.
Melzer's Boxing Club Chromexcel Medicine Ball, $350
Athletic types and fitness buffs will enjoy opening this Melzer's Boxing Club Chromexcel Medicine Ball on Christmas Day. 100% handmade and modeled after the ball used by Melzer Rhey, a Golden Gloves Boxing coach, it's extremely durable and great for building and improving core strength. Originally used to condition boxers it can easily be incorporated into almost any kind of workout routine.
Gothrod Chopper Chair, $18,000
For the guy who loves everything hot rods and hogs (and has a need for more seating in his apartment) the Gothrod Chopper Chair is the ultimate collector's piece. Features include hand-tooled leather saddles, flexible suspension style legs, and a functional skull-topped shifter knob that extends the foot rests when pulled.
Crocodile Skin Soccer Ball, £2,500
Crafted entirely of crocodile skin this 'football' is unlike any other your sports-loving soccer fan has ever seen. Made exclusively for Harrods it sits atop a brown crocodile skin stand with an engraved silver plaque that reads 'Santiago Gonzalez for Harrods.' Great as a display I'm not sure you'd want to throw it down and start kicking but you certainly could if you're so inclined (maybe just once, on principle).
Transit Issue Nomad Journal, $54
A brooding, thoughtful, poetic type will enjoy the ability to scribble notes at any time or place no matter the weather with this Transit Issue Nomad Journal. Intended for travelers its claim to fame is a waterproof cover and pages that protect all words, notes, and doodles from blurring, smudging, or washing away in the elements.
Burberry London Leather iPad Case, £275
IPad cases come in every size and shape imaginable but if you're looking for classic, fail-proof style we like this Burberry version in grainy brown leather with a zip-around closure on three sides. It doubles as a stand (as any good case should) when the iPad is in use and has only a large leather zipper pull and embossed Burberry logo as adornments.
Montblanc Timewalker Dual Carbon Chronograph, $6,480
A new timepiece is a staple when it comes to getting gifts for men but if your man enjoys wearing watches and has room in his wardrobe for another one it really is a great idea. If he already has a favorite brand or designer it's best to stick with that but if not you can't go wrong with a Montblanc. The model shown here is a favorite of Gerard Butler and features DLC (diamond like carbon), gold accents, a leather strap and Valjoux 7750 automatic chronograph movement.
Ralph Lauren Big Pony Fragrance, $50
This year Ralph Lauren launched his four fragrance Big Pony fragrance set for men with something for every personality type: Sporty has essences of lime and grapefruit, Seductive features dark chocolate and musk, Stylish smells of mandarin and kyara wood, and my personal favorite Adventurous has notes of pine and ginger root.
