Chateau Fleur-De-Lis, Estate of the Day

The Wall Street Journal recently reported that JetBlue founder David Neeleman and his wife, Vicki had put their New Canaan, Connecticut home up for sale. The Neelmans spent a year designing the eight-bedroom home which was completed in 2008. The couple has nine children and the home's 13,300 square feet offered plenty of room to roam. The home is also on 3.4 acres with a heated swimming pool on the grounds. There is a large gym with a basketball court and a lower level recreation room that has a fireplace, full kitchen and a theater with a stage. Although this is a newer home it takes many of its design cues from the past with large fireplaces and arched wood beam ceilings. The WSJ says the couple spent more than $17 million on the house but are asking $10.999 million (with Lynne Leonard Realty).

Why do owners give homes French names ("Chateau Fleur-De-Lis") which aren't original and terribly generic. Further they attach them to homes which lack French architectural style. This is isn't a French Normandy but rather some Tudor influenced, at best, executive manor.

I agree that the name doesn't quite fit. However, it is a beautiful home that is very tastefully decorated. I can't imagine living their alone, but with a large family it would be amazing. I wonder what the taxes are on a lot like that... probably astronomical.

Because, SB, as has been so meticulously and chronically documented on these very pages, money does not buy taste nor brains.
BTW, always enjoy your analyses.

If you like Tudor style homes filled with country nonsense decor, this is the one for you. All that wallpaper and flowered furniture drives me over the edge. I do think it's a beautiful place if you enjoy that sort of home. Reminds me of grandma's house in the woods....lol.

The cathedral ceiling in the entry way is really out of place. And the carpeting on the stairs is off center making those of us who have to use a railing and prefer to have carpeting underneath us in case of a fall, very uneasy. No way to stretch our arms that far. Just an observation.

how short is your arm? are you kidding me?

These places are built by people who are just too milquetoast to live in the real thing.
It's a simulacrum. Something that “bears no relation to any reality whatsoever,” as the late Jean Baudrillard would say. Like Disneyland's Main Street.

It takes a lot of up keep, How could anyone afford that. The House scares me on the Maint. and Utilities. This looks like what our Civil Servants are living in like the Judges, And the State people.

It is beautiful, but I will take my 4 bedroom, 3 bathroom home and be happy with it . I would not feel like I was living in a real home , to me is a just a house.

I really did not think that Jet Blue rendered that kind of money. I've never flown the airline, nor do I know anyone who has.

A lot of nice things - and a few McMansion elements but all in all a nice home - perfect for a large family (9 kids, wow!).
But the real estate broker should be held accountable for falsely representing parts of the home. And this goes for all brokers. Unless the pool is 164' long and 82' wide, it is NOT an Olympic Sized swimming pool. Get it straight brokers.
Norene, you are missing out. JetBlue is the best domestic airline in the USA.

Stop being HATERS people. A lot of you have negative comments, complaints and criticisms about this family's house. The man is rich, he can call his house whatever the hell he wants to call it. DO ANY OF YOU HAVE A HUGE HOUSE LIKE THIS? This is how a rich man should live as someone above said, and I agree. DO ANY OF YOU HAVE 10 million to buy a house of this magnitude? THEN SHUT THE HELL UP. Because guess what, if any of DID have 10 milion, you'd run up and buy that house in a heartbeat. I KNOW I WOULD.

Very European and oh so exquisite! I can only imagine the monthly maintenance and regular over head.....obviously not an issue it their reality.
Since I at one time flew Jet Blue to NY regularly, I guess I am in a minute way a bit of a sponsor of this lovely home....Gives me a thrill!
