Jean Paul Gaultier Ultra Luxe Socks
When it comes to the winter season, there is no doubt that socks are a must among the many other items you'll need to keep you warm. Especially long socks. With the windy days we've been experiencing on the east coast, ankle socks are just not cutting it. Lately, I've been borrowing my husband's socks, (because apparently our dog likes to only chew on my socks) but that can only last for so long. It's time to spend a little cash and purchase my own warm socks.
I came across Jean Paul Gaultier's Knee High Socks and instantly fell in love with the design. Who knew a mixed matched collection of prints could look so good together? But I can't bring myself to part with $345 for one pair of socks. A handbag yes, a pair of socks, not so much.
But for those that have a little extra cash to spend or want to warm the feet of a loved one, Gaultier's Wool Socks, which were originally seen during his A/W 2010-2011 runway show, might make for an unexpected stocking stuffer.

Wow! That long socks is so trendy! It's perfect for the winter season. I wonder if it's suitable to wear for Lolita fashion since I'm planning to give my Lolita friend a Christmas gift.

$345 for a pair of socks is the world nuts?
ccolotexan Nov 15th 2010 10:31AM
Anything over 5 or 6 bucks is nuts for one pair of sox.
jay Nov 15th 2010 12:58PM
the world is nuts because thats more than both of mine -- though a lot of work went in to those

If you really want mismatched socks you should try littlemismatched.com. They are cute and only about $8 a pair and they probably keep you just as warm.

A fool and his money ...

You are so right! A fool and his money are quickly parted! My mother used to call overpriced stuff like that "Dead Capital! Dead Money! Throw-A-Way Money! Millionaires are not suckers, on the contrary, they would never buy this overpriced stuff. Millionaires that I know will buy 3 good pair of wool socks and wear them for 25-30 years or more, lol. Designers of this high priced stuff either give away their items to movie stars to wear or carry as advertising or loan the stuff to wear or carry, so the average sucker will go buy the stuff. Movie stars themselves do not pay for this overpriced stuff no matter who designed what. Some even get paid to carry a purse or show up in some restaurant wearing a particular dress or handbag, lol. All of them ...designers...clientele ...laugh all the way to the bank. My advice...save your money... put into the stock market and retire a millionaire. No one really cares what people wear.

What ever happened to calf length socks for women. These minni socks that cover only the foot and don't even cover the ankle are cheap junk. I don't need above the knee socks at any price. Start making decent socks with a shaped foot and leave the tight elestic out of the cuffs. Socks don't need to be a fashion item nor so thick you can't get on the shoes. Just give us a normal decent sock.

One pair of Jean Paul Gaultier's Knee High Socks retails for $345 a pair! I'll admit I'm not very good at math, but if you throw in the vet bill for beating the sh*t out of the dog for chewing on one of them, the service repair bill for tearing apart both the washer, and the dryer, trying to find out which machine ate one of them damn socks so's you can get it back and the dry cleaning bills for the things so you won't lose one in the wash any more and they will retain their elasticity so they'll stay up longer than your ordinary tube socks from Footlocker, and the actual price of the socks soars to an easy $1,000.00!!! The only way I'd go for these is if Santa Clause is real and I find them under the tree! Considering Santa doesn't come to see me and I don't have a tree, I can probably rule these completely out....

$345 is nearly total what I spend on Christmas for the whole 9-person family! And how are these socks "mismatched"? They look the same to me. And if you really want mismatched, buy a couple of pair of colorful socks at the Mart, mix em up and you'll have two pair for $5!!!
Getyourownlife Nov 15th 2010 11:11AM
I see this as a rude slap in the face to people who could not afford this even if they were stupid enough to.
It is like ha ha, you are poor.
If you were rich and special you could be snobby and frivolous.
But you are not.
You are poor.
Ha ha
Jean Paul Gaultier, really?
Socks?
You arrogant SOB

Knit your own socks.
virgo13 Nov 15th 2010 12:37PM
This is ridiculous for a pair of socks! I love fashion but I cant stomach paying this much when I know that there are so many people suffering out there. Target and walmart have such cute knee high socks, probably some very close to looking like this and $5bucks at the most...
lalametallica93 Nov 15th 2010 1:31PM
Mismatched as in all the patterns on the two (same) socks are all different. The socks are the same, they just have a bunch of different patterns on them. Hence "Who knew a mixed matched collection of prints could look so good together?" Anyway, RIDICULOUS price. Cute socks though.
Juanita Nov 15th 2010 5:28PM
The pattern on the socks from the toe up is different, every design is different...the socks themselves are not mismatched. Just saying.
Hooper Nov 15th 2010 6:42PM
Well thanks, LaLa, for telling me what they meant by mismatched and not calling me an idiot for asking. And they are cute, but damn. That's a lotta money for socks.
Charles Nov 15th 2010 1:34PM
Ouch...that's crazy! As someone else said, you can get a LOT of socks at WalMart, for that. I, myself, wear diabetic socks (just-below-the-knee length, size 13-15), which are a little bit more than regular socks, but they're totally worth it. Two pair were $8.50 a few months ago, but they have recently gone down in price to $7.67 for two pair. Way to go, WalMart! Charles

The point of the price is that you will stand-out in a crowd wearing something very few have. Along with the quality of the product and the high fashion, the signal is sent that you demand the very finest the industry has to offer .
