Wine 'Superlot' Sells For $320,000
One bidder at Skinner's recent wine sale on November 2 basically bought a wine cellar's worth of wine in one swoop of the auction paddle. The Bordeaux wine 'superlot' was comprised of 50 cases of wine including 10 cases of Chateau Haut Brion 1995-2004; 10 cases Chateau Lafite Rothschild 1995-2004; 10 cases of Chateau Latour 1995-2004; 10 cases of Chateau Margaux 1995-2004 and 10 cases of Chateau Mouton Rothschild 1995-2004. The first growth Bordeaux are basically the blue chip stocks of the wine world making this an easy investment for someone interested in filling a wine cellar very quickly with some of the most famous brands. The estimate for the lot was $200,000-300,000. It sold for $320,000.[via Paul Fraser Collectibles]

whoever paid that for that must have stuttered at the auction. now i don't have all the quantities of each vintage, but those years, with the exception of 2000 and 2003, are not worth that much regardless of provenance or address. whoever bought that, had more money than taste. bling wine.

There are the 2000 & 2003 vintages in there and those are quality. It is quite overpriced but on the other hand it is a good deal in the quantity side of it.

wow. some folks still have money. the economy.

Well as it is, it all goes down to provenance and the rarity of the wine. The 2009 vintages is going to be another great one as I heard as Chateau Lafite has already been rated with 100 points by Robert Parker. Have a look at this.
