James Brady in East Hampton, Estate of the Day

Today's home in East Hampton, New York was originally built in 1952 and purchased in 1978 by writer and novelist James Brady. The traditional white home is one of the simpler homes on the posh address of Further Lane (one of his books "Further Lane: A Novel" is a dishy murder mystery set in the area).
The six-bedroom home charms with built-in bookcases, an eat-in kitchen overlooking the backyard, a large front dining room, a formal living room with a wood-burning fireplace and a cozy family room with a brick fireplace and sliding doors leading to the slate patio/deck and pool area. The home has two separate master bedroom suites, one on each floor, and the one on the second floor has a deck. It's likely that the new owner will probably want to renovate, ripping out Formica countertops and wood paneling but hopefully they won't take too much of the old Hamptons style away. This classic home is listed at $4.9 million.

In serious need of remodel/update. It will never sell for that price.

A lived in home for a change. No TV over the fireplace, in a cabinet where it belongs.
Up-dating - yes. But what home does not need something.
Inviting - yes. A home with stories to tell and much to offer.
The price - Who knows, less has gone for more, and more for less.
Homes are emotional. A fireplace could sell a home to one person and not to another.
The entrance could put off a buyer right at the start, or welcome in the new caretaker.
This one will find the right one, it will be "up dated". What remains to be seen is if it looses it's soul in the process.

Definitely needs work. The price is pretty steep. At 3200 square feet it's not necessarily a huge house. But a good location and sitting on just under an acre. It'll be interesting to see what the actual selling price will end up being.
