MARCH LA.B AM 1 Shelby Limited Edition Watches Partner With Automotive Icon

Still very new as a brand, MARCH LA.B timepieces was able to woo Carroll Shelby enough into doing a limited edition collection together. The famous icon of the American auto industry is probably most well known for his work with Ford producing many generations of Shelby Cobra 'super' Mustang cars.

Working closely with Shelby, MARCH LA.B now offers two limited edition timepieces that evoke the spirit of the American muscle car based on MARCH LA.B's AM 1 watch model. Increased in size to 40mm wide, the steel watch features a design that is specifically influenced by one very special concept car. That vehicle being the 1968 Shelby Green Hornet prototype. Only a few were made and then forgotten for years. One or two of them exist today in restored condition. The all green body of the Green Hornet is captured in a few green elements on the watch include the crystal over the caseback (on the automatic movement version), and the color of the text on the date disc.

MARCH LA.B was very proud to feature a dial with a wood grain that perfectly mirrors the wood grain used on the interior of the Shelby Green Hornet. Of course the famous Shelby Cobra logo, along with Carroll Shelby's signature has been recreated on the watch dial. The unique retro look of the AM 1 watch lends itself quite nicely to capturing the feeling and poise of classic American muscle cars. An interesting note about the MARCH LA.B brand is that the brand founder and designer, while French, has been an avid fan (and owner) of American muscle cars for years.

There will be two limited edition versions of the AM 1 Shelby watch available. Both are 40mm wide in steel, with sapphire crystals and very nice Swiss construction. I have seen the pieces myself, and they are quite impressive. The brand certainly has a much higher level of quality that one might expect from an infant watch company. One version of the AM 1 Shelby watch will have a Swiss quartz movement and be limited to 170 pieces with a price of $1,500 - while a more limited version of just 30 pieces will contain a Swiss ETA 2892-2 automatic movement with a price of $2,500. The automatic watches will have a metal bracelet, while the quartz one will have a retro themed perforated leather strap. They will arrive in a box that (again) has that same matching wood grain, along with a small scale model of the original Shelby Green Hornet car. Look for this cool collection starting in mid November 2010 from MARCH LA.B.
