Glenfyne Single-Malt Expected to Fetch £10,000
A rare malt whisky from a distillery that closed more than 70 years ago is expected to fetch up to £10,000.The Glamis ten-year-old 20th century single malt was distilled and bottled by The Glenfyne Distillery Co. Ltd., on Ardrishaig in Scotland.
The distillery operated for more than 100 years before it closed in 1937, and the bottle was imported into the USA by Greig, Lawrence and Hoyt Limited, of New York. In addition to the Glenfyne Distillery crest embossed on top, it also bears an American tax strip and carries the words "Federal Law Forbids Sale or Re-use of This Bottle" on the shoulder.
It is the star item in Bonhams' whisky sale in Edinburgh on November 17.

If Federal Law Prohibits the Sale and Re-Use of This Bottle, then how is it being allowed that it can be sold and used now? Just because it's old? Just because it will fetch nearly $20,000 American Dollars? I'm confused why it can sold and re-used now, when Federal Law Prohibits it!!

The stamp means that you cannot sell the EMPTY bottle. Its perfectly legal to sell the bottle with the contents intact.

Great merciful heavens, I had just prepared my palate for Macallan's $10,550.00 booze, but now I find that there is probably more snob appeal involved with swilling Glenfyne at considerably more! What is an obscenely rich Scotch dipso to do?
