Val Kilmer's Pecos River Ranch Back On The Market
Earlier this year actor Val Kilmer fought for the right to use get his Pecos River Ranch in New Mexico approved as a bed and breakfast. After he made a public apology for some unfavorable comments he made about life in New Mexico including a quote in Rolling Stone magazine about how he lived in "the homicide capital of the Southwest," New Mexico's San Miguel County decided the nearly 6,000 acre Pecos River Ranch can operate as a bed-and-breakfast retreat. But now, just a few months later the ranch, which was on the market in 2009 for $33 million, is back up for sale with a price cut. The ranch is now listed with Santa Fe Realty Partners for $23 million. The new listing includes photographs of the property and a couple of interior shots showing casual Southwestern style. The ranch is located approximately 22 miles northeast of Santa Fe and has ample wildlife and a trail system that snakes throughout the property. It is located along a seven-mile stretch of the Pecos River which offers great opportunities for fishing. Last year in a video interview with KOB-TV Kilmer said that when he put the ranch up for sale he was not planning to leave the state. Kilmer said that he only listed the whole ranch to "try and attract a business partner for an idea I have about a sustainable, off-the-grid community." Back in 2006 he had also offered an 1,800 acre parcel of the ranch for $18 million. Earlier this year the Pecos River Ranch website listed one-bedroom casitas renting at $200 per night. The website for Val Kilmer's Pecos River Ranch is still live.

I can see why he had to lower the price. Whoever is insane enough to buy it will have to completely redecorate. I have never seen such a tacky place in my life. I thought Val Kilmer would have better taste.

Pam,
It's Sante Fe, New Mexico, if you didn't notice? Although the home isn't my style either, the decor of the house perfectly fits the area, as well as the architecture of the home, down to each detail. It's not "tacky" at all if that is the style you are going for, which is completely appropriate in this home's case.

That looks like a very nice Old West themed home & I'm hard to impress. I especially like the no noise, no dirty air, not near a city aspect of it.
My home is three miles from the Everglades National Forrest, and much more green, though. The problem with being successful at anything, especially acting, is you're not home much anyhow which I can attest to.....Alfred-

Heard of Batman Forever? Top Gun? Tombstone? If not, you're probably too young too remember Val Kilmer. He was and still is (in my opinion) a very good actor. You should check out the movies above they are all (again, in my opinion) pretty great!

It is beautiful, I don't know why he would ever want to leave it. I could spend out the rest of my days there.

Now that is my idea of living! Beautiful.
While I like Southwest design, it would be nice decorated with a Mexican flair.

Call me squeamish, but the entire time I was viewing the outside of the home, I was looking for rattle snakes!

ONEPETLOVER: I HAVE NOW LIVED IN NEW MEXICO FOR OVER 33 YEARS AND LIVE ON A GOLF COURSE OVER LOOKING THE RIO GRANDE RIVER AND THAN FARTHER EAST TO THE SANDIA MOUNTAINS. SPECTACULAR VIEW AND LIFE. MY SON OWNS A RANCH AND RAISES RACING QUARTER HORSES. WE ALSO HAVE MOTOR HOMES AND HAVE STAYED ALL OVER THE STATE IN BEUTIFUL STATE AND FEDERAL RV PARKS. NONE OF MY FAMILY "OVER THIRTY OF US" HAVE EVER SEEN OR HEARD A RATTLE SNAKE, OR HAS THERE EVER BEEN A ARTICLE IN THE ALBUQUERQUE JOURNAL OF ANY SIGHTING OR PROBLEM. ARE ONLY PROBLEM IS OVER 340 DAYS OF SUN.
Cutie Oct 27th 2010 6:20PM
rattlers and scorpions, yes, they are out there
J Burns Oct 27th 2010 6:38PM
that you have not seen the snakes does not mean that they have not seen you and run away

The property location is awesome. No, the home isn't to my taste, but that is not the point: it is appropriate for the area. Most curious why Kilmer would rent this out as a bed and breakfast? Does the guy need cash that badly? Still, for someone who has that kind of money to buy it, one thing is for sure: no bad neighbors to deal with!

Hi Gary, Thanks for clarifying. Coming from Florida I always seem to have people asking me if I've ever seen an alligator. Thank God, NO! I always wanted to visit Sante Fe. I understand Carol Burnett has made her home there. It seems like a beautiful place. Hopefully, one day I'll get there to visit. Take care, Annette

Man, you people must be city slickers. Saddle you a horse up with a rifle & rations & follow that river for a couple days escaping this rat race life of ours. Come back to the casual living style of that home & throw your boots off. Doesn't get any better than that..
thatsjim2 Oct 27th 2010 5:39PM
this place is only 7 miles long you can ride that in an hour on a horse.

Such a gorgeous piece of property, beautiful picturesque mountains, streams and natural wildlife, I call it paradise. I could live there in a heartbeat. The motive blends in with the Santa Fe atmosphere, and there was nothing tacky about it at all. It's not minimalist New York decor, but they decorated it comfortably for their surroundings. How anyone has never heard of Val Kilmer is astonishing! Rent The Saint with Elisabth Shue, one very exciting romantic movie. He is one of America's finest actors.

I've lived in Albuquerque since 1965 when I was five and have visited the Pecos headwaters many times. Probably the best living conditions in the southwest. To those of you in Florida, I bet you'd love not having mosqitos around, yet this area is the wettest in NM. I've seen many rattle snakes but they always crawl away as quickly as possible (for a snake), they know we're not food and are more likely to kill them. Val's place is exquisite and unmatched as a cultural experience. Santa Fe can be fun too, and Albuquerque is a short hour and a half away. If you ever wanted to leave the Pecos River Ranch. Believe me if the lottery picks the right numbers I'll be giving Mr. Kilmer a call.
