EDITION: A New Resort on Oahu by Ian Schrager, George Yabu, And Glenn Pushelberg

The new hotel brand EDITION officially launches its first hotel in Hawaii on October 15, 2010. This new brand is part of Marriott International. The Waikiki EDITION, situated on Oahu, is set in its own private oasis close to Waikiki's celebrated surfer's beach, marina shopping district. This new urban resort was envisioned by Ian Schrager, and operationalized in collaboration with interior designers George Yabu and Glenn Pushelberg with landscape designer Deborah Nevins.
The lobby's surfing theme is defined by a dramatic, wall-to-wall surfboard installation ( see above) by artist and internationally renowned former professional surfer Herbie Fletcher. It is made from over 100 collected, broken surfboards from the sport's best pipeline surfers: Kelly Slater, Andy Irons, Mick Fanning, Joel Parkinson, Nathan Fletcher, Bruce Irons, and Christian Fletcher. It hangs above the custom-made reception desk, which has been made from sculpted plywood transformed into a natural, organic shape and finished using the techniques and traditions of local Hawaiian surfboard making.

The Editon's Private Sunset Beach
The pools at The Waikiki EDITION serve both as day and night destination experiences.. The Sunrise Pool, reflects the changing deep hues of the Pacific Ocean and features shallow lounging areas with chaises that appear to be floating on the water. The naturally aged gray teak decking complements custom made teak chaises and oversized day beds for all-day lounging and sunning. A grove of more than 20 mature Hawaiian "Autograph" trees and plantings of pink bougainvillea and jasmine create a lush garden of orchards and mallées. The Private Sunset Beach and Bar is also an significant environment that has an inland private beach overlooking the ocean .
As part of its well-being initiatives, The Waikiki EDITION also offers Surf and Bikini Boot Camps so that guests can firm up, lose weight and inches, have fun and rebuild their vitality in a lush, nurturing environment. Alongside yoga, biking and hiking in Waikiki's spectacular landscape and customized spa menus, specialized trainers provide individual fitness programs and surfing exercises on the beach to fast-track to a great bikini or surfer body.

The Edition's Morimoto Restaurant
World-renowned Japanese Chef Masaharu Morimoto brings his dynamic and original cuisine to Morimoto Waikiki at EDITION. The design for Morimoto Waikiki at EDITION combines traditional Japanese elements with those of the Hawaiian Islands. Signature dishes will include Toro Tartare, with Osetra caviar, Tuna Pizza made with raw tuna, anchovy aioli, and jalapeno; and Morimoto Sashimi, a terrine of seared toro, smoked salmon, barbequed eel, tuna and hamachi served with five different sauces in pipettes.
In addition, The Waikiki EDITION will offer nightlife at the Crazybox nightclub. Designed to be raw in feel, guests enter through large rusted steel doors before ascending a concrete stairwell into an "other-worldly" space. A 30 foot long bar made of weathered, rusted steel welcomes guests and a custom designed light sculpture suspended over the space, features over 40,000 reclaimed, antique light bulbs. This unique approach to lighting is a dramatic departure from the lighting of nightclubs in the past. An exclusive VIP section with its own discreet, separate entrance is elevated on a tilted axis overlooking the dance floor. The undulating, silver leather banquettes were designed by Yabu Pushelberg while the lighting and sound system was designed by Clair Brothers, the concert tour specialists who designed Michael Jackson's final concert in London.
On the 17th floor, the 1,500 square foot Penthouse with its 1,400 square foot wraparound landscaped terrace forms an apartment offering an indoor/outdoor entertaining space with the intimate feel of a private residence. Featuring expansive views across Oahu's harbor and ocean, the Penthouse has original artwork and its own private dining room, kitchen, entertainment center, library and bedroom. Additionally, the hotel offers a 1,300 square foot Sun Suite, similarly perfect for smaller gatherings; its view to the West offers the additional benefit of the best sunsets in town.
The Waikiki EDITION boasts the largest luxury Ballroom on Oahu at 9,200 square feet, seating up to 920 guests.

The hotel may look fancy, but after three emails and a phone call to this LUXURY property, I still have not received an email or phone call back with the information I requested. I've received better service from a Marriott Fairfield Inn.
