Ultra Modern Resort Captures the Soul of Old Bali

Alila Villas Soori in Bali
As a winter chill hits much of the country, the Alila Villas Soori resort in Bali could be just what you need to extend summer a little. The resort, a newcomer to Bali, is located far from the crowded tourist zone of Kuta and Seminyak, where many franchise hotels are located.

Its designer and owner, Soo Chan, a renowned architect based in Singapore, opted to build this new, five star resort in the Tabanan Regency, one of Bali's most beautiful areas, on the remote southwest coast of the island.

Alila Villas Soori, located near the island's famous Tanah Lot Temple and the acclaimed Nirwana Golf Course, is stunning. The resort, which has a ten bedroom residence with its own spa, gym and helicopter landing pad, is ideal for intimate weddings. While Chan says his resort aims to capture the "soul of old Bali" it offers 46 ultra modern villas surrounded by volcanic mountains, rice fields and black sand beaches.

There are several restaurants at the resort including Cotta, which serves continental cuisine as well as regional Indonesian dishes. Coast is a beachfront restaurant that is just steps from the sand that features an Izakaya grill open-kitchen concept serving Japanese-inspired cuisine. Drift serves an eclectic dessert menu.

The resort's spa, called Spa Alila, offers unique treatments that blend ancient Asian healing techniques with age-old beauty recipes featuring the curative benefits of fresh, natural, quality ingredients.

Chan, the resort's owner, says that he attempted to seamlessly craft the resort into the landscape so that it flows from the nearby rice terraces to the black sand beaches. From each villa, guests have stunning, panoramic views of the Indian Ocean, their own private infinity pool and direct access to the beach. A premium is placed on superior service with attentive staff who speak fluent English.

From mid September to mid December, Alila Soori typically offers a variety of accommodations, ranging from a beach villa with a pool for $860 per night to a three bedroom villa with a pool for $2,500 per night and a ten bedroom residence at $12,000 per night.

But until December 19, the company is offering reduced rates on its Web site. The beach villa with a pool, for example, is now $510 per night and a three bedroom pool villa is $1,750 per night. All villas include:
· Dedicated villa host
· Access to a full wellness spa and gym
· A private infinity swimming pool
· Wi-Fi, LCD and Plasma TVs, Apple TV and iPods
· Indoor and outdoor rain showers
· Tours on Segways
· Trips to local spice markets with the Alila Soori Chef
· Custom designed journeys by a dedicated leisure concierge
