Golden Harvest Estate, Estate of the Day

A bucolic 15-acre Connecticut retreat heads to auction on October 16 through Concierge Auctions. This home in Litchfield County was previously offered for $7.995 million and will sell without reserve, meaning it will sell to the highest bidder regardless of price. The live, on-site auction is being conducted in cooperation with listing agent John C. Sniffen of Litchfield Sotheby's International Realty.
"This client is committed to being the next luxury estate to sell in Litchfield County," stated Sniffen. "Not only are the property's 15 acres picturesque and expansive, but the home itself is new and exquisitely-constructed, while only a two-hour commute to New York City. "
The 7,500-square-foot home has six bedrooms and 4,500 square feet of outdoor living space. The large stone entryway that makes use of reclaimed material excavated from the property. The massive stone fireplace is the heart of the Great Room, which has 30 foot ceilings and enormous windows. The formal living room has an old-world cast iron gas fireplace, and the library offers ample seating and spectacular views of the wraparound deck. The third floor includes an office suite and the basement has more than 1,900 square feet of space for indoor entertainment, including an exercise room and theater. Another 30-foot covered fireplace of New England fieldstone is the centerpiece for the porch and provides a way to stay warm while enjoying the view of rolling green hills. Horrible drive way and waiting for a pool

I thought the same thing about the pool, but something tells me that given the grade of the back yard and the (from what the pictures show) the remote nature of the property that the back yard has septic lines for sewer and therefore couldn't handle a pool off the back

This just smells of being a c.2002 deluxe model home for a would-be grand but now failed development. A lack of imagination, absence of any warmth, and general cheap 'executive lodge' feel is painfully evident. The wood for the flooring and walls just has a cheap plastic look about it like it was sourced from Home Depot.
It's not a trophy home nor is it an architectural triumph.
Also I assume the top photo is a photoshoped image with added plantings and flowers in front. All the other pictures of the front show something far less floral.

Agree with SB. And it has that sterile model home feel. Maybe that will disappear somewhat in a decade or two with mature landscaping.
But what I really can't get over is that quasi-hunting lodge look with the rear roof overhang. It looks like a perfect place for birds to roost and make nests. It serves no real purpose and looks tacky and out of scale.
The only way places like this get built and sold is because people with bad taste sometimes also have money.

For every nice touch, there are two things that reek of sloppy design.
I'm not sure who I'm more disappointed in, the architect, the designer, the photographer or the person listing this with 80+ photos that include near duplicates of average views and some simply terrible shots.
Photo #41 - this and every bathroom except for the master is abominable.
Photo #42 - wow! those windows are terrible!
Photo #47 - would it hurt you to wait a second and move the ill-fitting carpet?
Photo #50 - holy horrible habitat batman! I mean my god!
Photo #51 - A 7,500 square foot home and you have to have the office in the upper landing?
Photo #57 - Way to take the type to set this shot up...holy cow is that bad!
Photo #80 - Problem with open, irregular shaped spaces = awkward tile workmanship
all that said, the master bedroom and bath are nice and kitchen is alright (not my favorite wood to use for a kitchen) but this misses the mark. A lot better quality out there. Somewhere else in Connecticut ,Mr. Wadia is laughing (or crying)

I dislike any interior designer who paints all the woodwork and walls white or walls a neutral 'beige' - this house has no spirt, no personality. I would have thought it would sell better with some large area rugs on the floors and some color to the walls.
