"Sex and the City's" Malibu Home, Estate of the Day

The beachfront tri-level that was used to film the first "Sex and the City" movie has come on the market as a $55,000 a month lease. It is also available for sale at $13 million as a pocket listing, not in the MLS. At the time the 2008 film was shot here, it was listed at about $17 million and rents out in the summer for $75,000 a month.
The property was portrayed as the home of Kim Cattrall's high-powered public relations character and filming occurred for about two weeks here. In the film, sexpot bombshell Samantha Jones shares the home with her fictional actor boyfriend, Smith, who encourages Samantha to spend less time traveling to New York and more right here. Easy to see the argument why. It's an incredible property with five cantilevered balconies overlooking the Pacific Ocean. A second Malibu property was used to film the girls' "Mexican" honeymoon hotel in the same movie -- the one that put Carrie in a "Mexi-coma."
Since the movie was shot, the beachfront home's entry level has been redone, bringing the square footage to almost 5,800. The architectural home has a contemporary kitchen with state-of-the-art appliances, CaesarStone quartz countertops and travertine floors. There is a large entertainment room, a wet bar, wine cellar and a maid's quarters with separate entrance. Being smack on the oceanfront has it's advantages too, of course. The ocean side has floor to mid-roof arched glass for a dramatic ocean and sky view. There are balconies on both sides, creating a transparent sea-and-sky environment.
The home was designed by architect Jay Vanos and sits on 50 feet of prime Malibu beachfront. There are five bedrooms and 6.5 bathrooms. The gourmet kitchen features stainless steel appliances and high-tech lighting. Hosts five bedrooms and six and a half baths. Features gourmet kitchen with stainless steel appliances, high-tech lighting, and Wenge cabinetry. Many elements of the home are customized, including the state-of-the-art sound system, premium cherry wood and limestone floorings, a remote control skylight screen. Each of the three fireplaces is made of Santa Barbara sandstone.
The showcase home has a dramatic master suite, well-displayed in the movie with some of the original furnishings. The master bath has a freestanding tub with ocean views.
Ani Dermenjian of Coldwell Banker, Malibu Colony office, is the listing agent.

Oh, please, people! Sex AND the City. Has been around long enough now.
Jerseygirl Sep 28th 2010 3:35PM
Sigrid, at first I thought you were criticizing the show as having been around for so long that it wasn't important to even talk about...but then I realized you were making the point that the title of the article had the show's name wrong! Yes, I agree...why can't people get the name of the show right, as it has been around for a long time now? I would like to change my vote for your comment to a positive one, because I agree, wholeheartedly, but I think once you vote, it's locked in. Sorry about that. Love the show and your comment!

But does it has Gilles Marini taking a shower next door? That would be worth 13 mil. right there!

By my calculations, it would run around $59k a month at $13mm (which doesn't include property taxes or insurance), so if it rents for $55k a month, it's still priced a little high. Around $9mm-$10mm, it would be cash flow neutral as an investment. I'd consider a sale for $11mm a big win and $13mm - $17mm a lotto dream.

What, no pool? Looks to be in the Cove Colony (private road) off of Escondido Beach, little iffy on the "erosion" status. Also contiginous to the only beach in CA where it is legal to ride horses on the beach, or it was when I lived there (albeit on the other less tony end of the road).
Pretty snazzy neighbors out hat way!

Damn, I could lose my kids in there!! HHHHMMMM!
Absolutely amazing, incredible, gorgeous, etc!! Although, I must say...doesn't seem very warm and cozy. (not that I'd pass it up).......but, could sure as hell use a "woman's touch". And, I do believe..I am that woman, LOL.
Just showed to my gorgeous hubby, and, of course he had only one thing in mind because of all the different rooms. (can't put it in print.) Typical man, and I aint complaning!

This house is beautiful !!!
I really like the wood design around the bed.
My husband is a carpenter, one of the few that does not ever do home repairs, hardly ever fixes anything around the house.
Has not painted the eves around the base of our roof since 1996...
Obviously, he qualfies as one of those lazy guys.
But, he will make us one of those bed frames, if its the last thing he ever does in life.
If I have to make his life one living h.., he will build it..
I bet he still wont do it...
