Is Frank Sinatra A Real Estate Draw?

Earlier this week, Curbed LA reported that 320 North Carolwood Drive in Los Angeles, the former seven-bedroom home belonging to Frank Sinatra has hit the market for $22.5 million. This is where Frank's daughter Nancy Sinatra grew up. Sinatra eventually divorced Nancy's mother, Nancy Barbato and moved out. The home is on around 2.3 acres of prime real estate. The interior pictures look a bit dated prompting Curbed LA to wonder if this older home is headed for a teardown. The home is on the market for the first time in 50 years.
This isn't the first Sinatra home we've seen take a spin on the MLS. Twin Palms, the original Palm Springs home of Frank Sinatra was listed in 2008 for $3.25 million and sold for $2.2 million in 2009. It looks like it can still be rented out. Still up for sale however is Villa Maggio, the home Sinatra built in the Palm Desert. That one started off at $4.995 million in 2008 but is now down to $4.4 million. The virtual tour for the seven-bedroom home is here.

I don't think this home is worth the asking price. The inside needs updating and the pool is small with no diving board. The grounds are nice. Would have liked to have seen more of the interior.

This house needs to come down on the asking price. The inside needs updating and the pool is small by today's standards and has no diving board. The grounds are very nice though but It looks like a movie star's home from the 1950's. Would like to have seen more of the interior.
Sue Sep 23rd 2010 2:21PM
I agree with Beth, I would have liked to have seen more of the interior rooms. But, the house is magnificent...just like the man was.

forgive me,, I liked "ole blue eyes" but the house is not magnificent. The grounds are nice which anyone can duplicate on acreage outside the city for a few grand letting time do the rest. The house itself is dated without any modern amenities that justify this outrageous price. I could duplicate this home for less than $2MM where I live with plenty to spare in my pocket. Celebrity homes are a dime a dozen now & Sinatra's name is a nice sidenote but it won't carry any weight in future yrs. when the sucker who bought it wants to unload it at a higher price. California with it's "ours is better than yours" mindset has just about ruined the real estate market everywhere..

Would be a shame to see it torn down, for the right price it should be sold to a buyer who would renovate it but keep the period feel. I read several years ago that a famous show biz couple (can't remember their names) bought Joan Crawford's former California home with all it's original art deco features and completely gutted and modernized it. Too bad, they had something unique and one of a kind.

Clint Black and Lisa Hartman Black are the ones who renovated the former Joan Crawford home in Brentwood. Not sure if they still live there.

It makes me sick to hear the inside is "dated", and may need a "teardown" because of that! Sure the price is way out of line, but who determines the house isn't worthy of some personal remodelling without "updating"? Whims and fads are changing all the time, and theres a lot of charm in older homes that don't have the latest do-dahs. That should be up to a buyer, not a "seller"!

Wonder if the furniture stays.

No diving board? Really?? This is a multi-million dollar property and the lack of a diving board and/or dated decor has absolutely nothing to do with its value. This property is over two acres of prime Beverly Glen real estate, where developers would never renovate a home like this. This house will be razed and a new, hotel-sized, mega-mansion will be built in its place, just like the behemoth across the street, 355 Carolwood which is over 22,000 sq feet.
Mata Hari Sep 23rd 2010 3:27PM
The asking price is high.
That said, it is a far more graceful property than anything new I have seen. The new stars' homes look like phoney Disneyland for the tasteless noveau-riche compared to this home.
If I had the home, I wouldn't touch it. It is lovely and just getting to the place where it has genuine character.

You have excellent taste. Unfortunately what you say about the"you owe it to me generation" is true, they buy, build and then travel without making a house a home.
Relators will grab it, tear it and if zoned correctly will place two home on the property and make out like bandits. Take a page from Nicholas Cage, his house was atrocious and it probably still is on the market.
What happen to Frank's daughter Nancy who used and abused his name.

Great house, way too expensive. MUCH nicer than the Palm Desert house! Probably built better than many of today's homes. And what's wrong with just a different paint color, to update the look. To tear it down and put up a mega-mansion is just conspicuous consumption. Says "I've got more money than I know what to do with!"

I hear Obama is interested in using it as his left wing progressive hideway.

I see they still let trailer-trash people write in here--address the topic or stay out!

I love it! The grounds are spectacular. The asking price is right on in my opinion for the location and size of the lot 2.3 acres. I wonder if the artwork comes with?? I would have an auction for the artwork and get most of the purchase price back and then some! Same as the other home in the desert, sell the artwork!
Patricia Sep 23rd 2010 7:36PM
I agree, the house is wonderful and has such personality ,i would not change one thing about it,just the way it is , and to think old blue eyes lived there, that is enough to make some one buy it as is
Cindy Sep 23rd 2010 4:20PM
It is beautiful. I love the ceilings. The only thing I could see that I would change is the color of the walls. I like earth tones. The grounds look like a pretty park. I have wanted a pool all my life, and I thought that pool was heavenly! I would have liked to have seen more of the house. Hope somebody buys it and it doesn't get torn down.

It's the legendary home where Nancy Sinatra Jr. grew up. The place where her boots first did their walking! That alone is worth the asking price (I wish I had it!)
Karen S Sep 27th 2010 4:22PM
His home is beautifully done in spite of those who feel the look is dated.....all kinds of classy elegance. Just what I would expect from "Old Blue Eyes". The grounds are beautifully done. "Tear Down" in this RE market?....best rethink that one.
