A Peek Inside Tatoosh

We've been talking a lot about Paul Allen's Tatoosh yacht recently. We first heard in May that it was up for sale for 125 million euros (over $160 million) through Fraser Yachts. It came up again when we saw the 288-ft. Musashi built for an unnamed billionaire believed to be Paul Allen looking for a replacement for Tatoosh (the name has led some to speculate it could also belong to Larry Ellison). It came up a third time when we learned that Paris Hilton had spent time aboard Tatoosh this summer, tweeting that she was "on heaven on the water." Given that kind of recommendation we had to take a closer look. Luckily Fraser Yachts have plenty of listing pictures that offer a detailed view of the 303-foot yacht. The Tatoosh was built in 2001 by HDW Nobiskrug and refitted just this year. It has an owner's stateroom plus nine guest staterooms with room for 20 guests and 30 crew. There is a cinema, swimming pool and two helicopter decks. Other over-the-top features include a basketball court, recording studio, spa, massage room, gym and games room. Tatoosh is powered by twin DEUTZ-MWM Diesel engines and can reach a top speed of 19 knots and cruises comfortably at 15 knots.

Tatoosh is the sound 160 million dollars makes when it sinks.....

WoW that's a terrific boat. I don't have time for something like that, so for me it's pointless. Atleast somebody could get a job chiseling barnicles off the hull, so not a complete waste....Al-

Wow!! The onboard hyperbaric chamber is what astounds me. This yacht is decorated beautifully. No gold sinks and the like. If I ever have 160 million I could just live on board.
Andy Sep 20th 2010 11:41AM
If I had a billion dollars, that would be 16% of my income to buy that yacht. On the other hand, 16% of my actual income would buy me a 20 year old 18 foot ski boat. Ain't life wonderful?!?

Let's tax those rich people to death, so they can lay off the dozens upon dozens of people that support a boat like this! People do not realize how many jobs here in the US depend on luxury boats. From crews numbering over 20, to the shipyard workers, to the suppliers, these are good paying jobs, that support the middle class. Yeah, let's tax those rich people to death.
eclecticquill Sep 20th 2010 1:39PM
No, let's tax the rich appropriately. If they can't afford to pay taxes appropriate to their income, then they shouldn't have LUXURIES like a $160 million yacht they might use once a year. Maybe, just maybe, they would have to live like the rest of us mere mortals who are lucky enough to hold on 1 home and 1 car.
JW Sep 20th 2010 2:33PM
amen. everyone wants to punish the rich for success rather than think about all the JOBS they do create. go tell all the guys that built and maintain that boat they won't be able to feed their families because some one's jealousy made them place some sort of luxury tax on this. the uber rich are better off, get used to it.

Dan Bushey Sep 20th 2010 1:54PM
SHEESH!! and here I am, trying to get $500.00 together, to rebuild my Port engine, in my Chris craft!!
al schrader Sep 20th 2010 4:25PM
Dan, rebuilding your engine is more exciting than sitting on the couch in that boat watching wide screen TV or looking out the window at the waves.

I know, but I would like to TRY sitting on THAT boat, JUST ONE TIME!!
al schrader Sep 20th 2010 5:33PM
Dan, I've been on billion dollar yachts like the Ambassador II for example.
This Kaboosh boat is basically a floating livng room, a nice living room, but still a living room.

I am glad I don't own a 303' yacht ! My wife would make me wash it every Sunday!!
cala4u Sep 20th 2010 6:22PM
i seen on most expensive yahts the boat is worth like 100m..and hes asking 160?? Im sure he must have done alot of upgrades for the way the economy is doing to put it on the market at that price...wish i could afford the prop alone on this baby..lol

Not impressed, looks like the interiors of somewhere between a best western and a bad marriott hotel. Where is the luxury, yes it has space, but did they fall on their heads when they did the interiors??? Guess it is true money does not buy you class......or style for that matter!
bob Sep 20th 2010 8:06PM
Only TWO helicopter decks...never mind!!
BudMax77 Sep 20th 2010 10:40PM
I'd get one like this, but the cost of fuel to run it would bust my chops! Anyhow, it appears to be an ideal target for the multitude of pirates around the world. LOL
