Indian Billionaire to Be World's Richest Man by 2014

Forget Bill Gates, Warren Buffet and Carlos Slim: in four years' time the world's richest man will be Indian commodity king Mukesh Ambani (above), Forbes predicts in a new special report on the coming decade in finance and economics. The magazine estimates that Ambani's fortune will have swelled to $62 billion by 2014, outpacing the rest of the contenders, including current world's richest man Carlos Slim who's currently worth $53.5 billion. Mexico's Slim, who's made some risky investments including a large stake in the struggling New York Times, will be "hit hard by Mexican political and financial chaos," Forbes predicts. Ambani, 53, is currently the fourth richest man in the world with a fortune of $29 billion. He is the owner of Antilia, a 27-floor building in Mumbai which includes his family's private residence of 400,000 square feet, making it the world's first billion-dollar home and the largest private home in the world.

Ahhh, nothing like one of those typical Forbes predictions. Just like in 1997, when Forbes predicted (citing the NYT): "provided he merely goes on breathing, Bill Gates will almost certainly become the world's first trillionaire."

Oh... and no matter how useless trying to set right that urban myth, Antilia is NOT a billion-dollar-home...

I hope all the "slumdog millionaires" burn that place down. There is so much poverty in Mumbai and people suffering and struggling to survive. You made your fortune, now DO something positive to change the world.
Joe Papierz Jr Sep 14th 2010 11:04AM
Yeah sure. Like you would give half your money away to help the poor if you were in his position. BTW. How do you know he doesn't help the poor? So you aren't a multi-billionaire, how much did you donate to the poor last year?
ridiculous Sep 14th 2010 11:32AM
why not? how many billions do you or anyone need? it's just sitting in an investment or bank account somewhere or invested in props? i dont know but it's really ridiculous.
ridiculous Sep 14th 2010 12:09PM
JOE PAP,
how many billions do you or anyone else need? Just let it sit in a bank or investment account is a joke when it could make a real difference in the world. Why would you care when you have billions left over? How greedy can you possibly be? SICK

Writing a article about someones wealth seems rather pointless to me. Now had you added something of his caricature that reflected him in a positive light, like helping his brothers in poverty , then I might see the point. Simply having huge sums if cash doesn't automatically make you respected to people who value the things that truly matter in life

How much would can a wouldchuk chuk if a wouldchuk could chuk would?
al schrader Sep 14th 2010 5:48PM
It's Woodchuck not wouldchuck. I shoot them before they ever get a chance to chew on my trees. They carry fleas & tiny ticks infected with lime disease.
This doesn't seem to affect their quality for use in greening-up avocado trees, though....Farmer Al-

i do not care about his looks were he came from how many wives he has im happy to maybe one day meet him and learn from him plus having all that cash is a super plus especially for a woman i wood never take advantage of his riches i wood sit down with him and learn very hard what got him to the top so i can get there on my own with maybe part of his smarts to help keep up good work
Jane Sep 14th 2010 8:43AM
Try learning how to spell first. It might help!
Doreen Sep 14th 2010 9:19AM
(This is to what **JANE** wrote in reply to) (zurifem5647nj)
(Jane):, It is not that she spelt anything wrong, it is the way she spoke it or wrote it. Every one speaks & writes differently. At least she is not saying that she wanted to meet with him just to get her hands on his money, She wants to sit down with him and learn how he got to be where he is today, how he started out & what she could possibly do to get rich herself. Maybe not as rich as he is but like I said at least she is trying to better herself and not sponge off of anyone..
Maybe you should be more like her and try to better yourself instead of looking for every one elses faults..
Terry Sep 14th 2010 9:31AM
The word is spelled would, not wood. Get it together!
Richard Sep 14th 2010 10:15AM
It's 'would' NOT 'wood'. Use spell check and have people think you have a mind...
Bobby Sep 14th 2010 9:07AM
this is when all the moaners & groaners here in the states should be thankful for their standard of living. Here you have this guy in India & Carlos Slim of Mexico, two countries ravaged by poverty pulling off labels of being the world's richest. We may bitch about the rich being the upper 5 percentile but at least we have a $14Tr GDP for others to enjoy a higher standard of living. Try squeezing a living out of India/Mexico's GDP..
nomoethnos Sep 14th 2010 9:21AM
JANE: Guess what? Spelling well does not make money. An open mind does. I happened to have dated a very wealthy Man that could not spell but was a Millionaire by 19. Why, was he that wealthy? He was just that dang brilliant and did not need to concentrate on spelling or whether someone else had a closed mind towards him. The rest of you either have been unconscience or never get out. India has been buying a lot of our real estate, etc.., for a long time. Why not, it appears that American's are too busy being either jeolous or concentrating on spelling to do so.
m. brewer Sep 14th 2010 11:43AM
you are right, spelling does not make money. it does however show that you took the time to get educated enough as to not be considered an idiot, while trying to secure your start in business
bob Sep 14th 2010 10:48AM
The man lives in a country with totally destitute conditions, millions (billions) of starving people, an insufficient infrastructure, and he's living in a billion dollar home. I bet it's about as austentatious as they make them! I don't despise him for being rich, I despise him for not being spotlighted for helping his fellow man.
Marie Sep 14th 2010 1:40PM
How do you all know that they aren't helping the poor? Just because they don't advertise their good deeds doesn't mean they aren't. Have any of you ever given to the poor or helped someone out without patting yourself on the back and commenting on how wonderful you are? Seems to me that these people are pouting because they aren't beneficiaries of the others wealth. (And if I erred in typing "others" don't point it out to me; I am 80 and occasionally have the "fuzzies.")

Thats because our companies, especially communications, have been outsourcing to India; such as telephone companies, cable, and customer service. Furthermore, when you call to activate your food stamp card you must dial a number in India; you can barely understand what their saying.
