The World's Rarest Barbie by Stefano Canturi
This Friday night for Fashion's Night Out, Canturi Jewels will unveil the "World's Rarest Barbie." This Barbie was meticulously designed, from her hair and makeup to her frame, dress and shoes, by Stefano Canturi himself. She wears tiny, fabulously expensive jewelry reminiscent of Canturi's beloved Cubism collection of lace worked carre and baguette cut diamond jewelry. Her pieces include over three carats of white diamonds, a signature Canturi necklace with a glittering, one carat, emerald cut pink diamond -- a stone almost as rare as this one-of-a-kind Barbie -- and an iconic right-hand diamond ring.
"I wanted the jewelry design to pay homage to Barbie's modern yet timeless style, this is why I applied my Cubism design concept to her look; it is perfect for her," says Canturi of his collaboration with Mattel.
Barbie by Stefano Canturi will be auctioned at Christie's prestigious "Magnificent Jewels" sale in New York on October 20th, with 100 percent of the profits donated by Stefano Canturi to The Breast Cancer Research Foundation. Prior to that, she'll be touring the world, with showings in London, Geneva, Shanghai and Las Vegas.
From the dress to the bling and the shoes, not to mention the travel plans, we have never wanted to be Barbie so badly. Below, have a look at Stefano's actual inspiration collage -- a rare peek into the the creative process of this brilliant jewelry designer!

Let's see now.
She small, obviously without a brain, attractive if you are yourself wooden, everything about her personal is created and fake and she's well dressed.
Don't tell me, this is the next Republican nominee for Vice President.
One thing is for sure, she's already more qualified than that last dullard!
Lisa Sep 8th 2010 9:51PM
ha ha ha Robert probably! The last bimbo they got excited about couldn't even come up with a single news source that she read. Keep em dumb that way everyone around the world can walk all over us just like they did Bush.
As for the Barbie outfit wow. I hope they get more money from the auction that it costs for making her. I am glad the proceeds are going to a well deserved charity.

SHE IS JUST BREATHTAKINGLY BEAUTIFUL,,,,,I WISH I WAS HER
stickstikly Sep 9th 2010 1:58AM
I think she is beautiful. What a great idea giving the money to breast cancer. I lost my grandama who raised me to breast cancer. I played Barbies until I was 13yrs old. I have great memories of me and my gran making Barbie clothes. That is how I learned to sew. I was thrilled to hear about this. I hope Barbie makes million or more. Breast Cancer is killing moms, grandma's, sister's, daughters, and wives. So I say thank you. Thank you for your idea, your time, your mone and most of all your willingness to give. Thank you, Stefano Canturi.

Hate to rain on his Parade,It is not a Barbie not made by Matel it is a expensive copy ,but a copy all the same.
Raising the Bar Sep 9th 2010 3:34PM
It IS a Barbie...just a collector Barbie. The DOLL is made by Mattel but it's clothing and jewelry are by the designer. No one can use the name Barbie without Mattel's agreement/involvement. It's Barbie's LOGO and everything else.

It is not a Barbie, Not made by Matel,It is a expensive copy if anyone is stupid enough to buy it.
nikkirenee1978 Sep 10th 2010 12:09AM
did you read the article or just look at the pictures? It says that Canturi and Matel worked together in making this BARBIE.

She looks like, "Gold Digger" Barbie. She probably married a wealthy man, divorced him, and took all his money...

ROBERT
Your comments are uncalled for in a forum about a doll! This article is not about politics it is about a DOLL!
If you do not like strong republican women that is you right but you do not have the right to bring it up in a forum that is not about that subject!
Opinions are like your mother, sometimes she is ugly, most of the time she is wrong, she thinks she has the right to force you to see it her way but you have to put up with that to live with her and not bash her face in!
John F.C. Taylor Sep 9th 2010 5:23PM
The concept was great. So was the purpose. However, I think Barbie's dress could have been different. The multi-layered ruffles make it look like she's wearing a feather duster.
superfan Sep 9th 2010 6:00PM
next mattel will try to make "barbie's friends" dolls in the likenesses of spencer and heidi montauge-pratt, [destin to be the new "ken and barbie"] and a "teresa" doll that closley resembles a kim kardashian doll. LOL!!

Anybody who would spend hard earned cash on this travesty of a collectible must be certifiably INSANE. I would rather buy a petrified dino turd.
Master Chief Sep 9th 2010 7:30PM
That's the beauty of being able to spend your money on whatever you want. Someone might want to spend it on a collectible Barbie, while you think buying petrified dino turd is a better investment. But I say you'd be the more insane of the two :)
