Castello Sul Lago, Estate of the Day

Today's estate is a story of a listing price in freefall. A reader brought this lavish home in Spicewood, Texas to our attention. Back in February it was listed at $16 million but it's had some major price cuts.
Castello Sul Lago is in the gated Lakecliff subdivision in Spicewood, near Austin. The name is Italian for Castle on the Lake and the home overlooks a deep bend in Lake Travis. The more than 17,000-square-foot estate sits on about 31/2 acres. The elaborate home has marble floors, two-story Corinthian columns and spiral staircases with wrought-iron and gold-leaf railings. The home makes the most of the views. A two-story living room with a built-in wet bar overlooks the tranquil lake. The library is also two stories and has red walls, columns and a chandelier. A February article in the Statesman on the house says that all of the chandeliers are antiques from Europe.
The master bedroom has a fireplace and more amazing views. The complete master suite includes a bathroom with a dual-head shower room as well as two closet rooms and a cedar closet. The suite offers access to an outdoor hot tub a few stairs down. Other features include a wine cellar, a three-room art gallery, office, media room, and a third-floor ballroom with a wet bar. Outside there are three negative-edge pools and more than 6,000 square feet of outdoor terraces and balconies as well as a guest house, workout room and meditation room. Housekeeper's quarters are above the five-car garage.
AvenueOne Properties has the listing of the home which is now priced at just $9.8 million.

Well, It's pretty much an over-designed mess. But, I will say it looks nice from the back in my opinion. What's so strange is that I'd never match the back with the front. They look like two entirely different houses.

Normally, I hate homes that try too hard to go over the top and be something that are not. But somehow, this one pulls it off, although the use of columns in the interior is too much.

The house is unimpressive. It has great views but appears the owners needed "massive" bragging rights. The front is hideous looking. I predict the selling price will be closer to $7MM.

It looks like a museum. They should maybe offer a few Segways so that you can get around this massive thing.

Sorry but that two tone color scheme they have going on is just a big turn off. It's as if they didn't finish the outside look. Not to mention alot of space for doing nothing. Everything is big in Texas.

Nice pictures of the lake. Too bad that during most summers this part of it is a dried-up stream bed.

Not to fond of outside but inside is very nice.

I kinda like it. They need to work on manicuring that lawn though...
