Did the Sultan of Brunei Buy 10 Aston Martin One-77s for His Billion-Dollar Car Collection?

Back in February we reported on the mysterious filthy rich individual who purchased 10 Aston Martin One-77 supercars, limited to just 77 examples, for $1.7 million apiece or $23 million in total including fees. Now educated insiders are speculating that the Sultan of Brunei bought the cars to add to his multi-billion-dollar, 7,000-strong car collection, the world's most expensive auto hoard. According to Guinness World Records the Sultan's collection includes over 600 Rolls-Royces, more than 450 Ferraris, 570 Mercedes-Benzes, 380 Bentleys, 170 Porsches, dozens of Koenigseggs, and 20 Lamborghinis to name a few. He owns several rare custom, one-off and concept cars, some worth tens of millions apiece, including a Ferrari Mythos, a Jaguar XJ220 by Pininfarina, a Bentley Java, a Bentley Dominator SUV, bespoke Rolls-Royce and Ferrari station wagons, a Porsche Carma and a Koenigsegg Agera. Known for buying multiple models of supercars in order to have one in every color, he owns several McLaren F1s, six Ferrari FXXs, four Ferrari F40s and three Ferrari F50s. The Sultan, who's worth an estimated $20 billion, stores the collection in five heavily-guarded airplane hangars and employs a team of mechanics and specialists to keep the cars in perfect working condition.

All wrong. Please such a site (luxist) should check its sources before reproducing such a huge mistake.
The collection is actually 3,000
The cars are under lock and key for more than 10 years now.
HM has not being buying since the 90's.
The Aston's were sold to Qatari royals as far as the "gossip" goes.
Brunei is just a shadow of what it used to be.

A billion dollars aint enough. It takes more money than that to put gas into all of those cars. There are about 20 roads max in Dubai. Rest of it is sand.

I'm no rocket scientist but who does your proof reading and math?
"Back in February we reported on the mysterious filthy rich individual who purchased 10 Aston Martin One-77 supercars, limited to just 77 examples, for $1.7 million apiece or $23 million in total".
10 x $1.7 million = $17 million.

Lets get out of the Mid East and let these Sultans bail them out! America should rebuild nothing over there! If they want a better life, let them have a revolution and overthrow these pigs! We owe them nothing!

Hey, folks, why don't we give some American government aid to that guy? We pour billions into other countries (How's Haiti doing? NOTHING has improved there since we went ape and sent a ton of money and aid) but we do nothing to help middle-class Americans. Don't you get it? YOU are sacrificing for others who are "less fortunate". It's YOUR responsibility to allow a redistribution of your wealth to other countries. Illegal immigration can continue and your middle-class taxes will pay their education, healthcare and, often, lodging & food. A billion is spent every month to fight a 10-year old war, with no end in sight. So, let's send him more of YOUR money.

Eh...we get oil from the Middle East. You use it every time you fill your car up with gasoline. Your comment FAILS.

I have a very simple explanation on his hoarding experience, for beginners let me tell you all my friends that from all the items we own, only ten per cent of them we need.
I would like to listen to this hoarding gent in his dying bed, he would likely sound like a cousin of mine who before his last breath said, "WHY DO I HAVE TO DIE, I AM A MILLONAIRE, I HAVE EVERYTHING TO LIVE FOR, POOR PEOPLE SHOULD DIE"
Hoarding is an addiction, it is the self that has been affected.

Excuse me for flinching at this. A few fewer cars and a bit more given the health and human services needed by some of the less fortunate of his people hanging around the Middle East blaming Israel for their condition at every turn, that's what he can do with his cars. Blame him for the Palestinian situation, not Israel. It's stuffed sheets like this that should be drawing our attention. And I can guarantee you he didn't earn his wealth the hard way, working his way up from oil well driller to sultan through a hierarchical promotion. A higher up sultan should take his cars away, sell them, and donate the money to the poor. How about a health plan or educational benefits instead of cars? No where on earth is there so much accumulated wealth controlled by so few in the midst of so much abject poverty.
Shame on this man. I suppose we should be thankful his hobby isn't castles, or he'd have a few hundred of those.
