The Listing For Dennis Hopper's Compound Goes Live

A link on the Real Estalker website let me know that the listing for Dennis Hopper's Venice, California compound is now live. Last week it was announced that the entire property is for sale for $6.245 million. The property is a joint listing by Jade Mills and Jane Gavens, both with Coldwell Banker Previews International of Beverly Hills. A property website has a whole host of pictures taken by Berlyn Photography which are also in the MLS. The pictures show interior and exterior details off the space which includes the main residence designed by Brian A. Murphy, an art barn and three loft-style townhouses created by architect Frank Gehry.
Hopper was an artist and photographer himself and home displays an artist's sensibilities. The main house is constructed of corrugated steel, and the three townhouses are all open, loft-style spaces outfitted with modern furnishings and large art pieces. A garage featuring some of Hopper's motorcycles opens directly into the large art space. The property also includes the original bungalow-style cottage which was built in 1909 and is decorated in a more traditional style as befits its exterior. The lap pool also faces a small open pool house. Overall the compound extends to over 15,550 square feet of living space. The double provenance of this being both an actor's home and a home designed by the world's preeminent starchitect makes this a highly desirable home and a listing full of luscious pictures doesn't hurt.
The entire property can be bought for $6.245 million or the main residence, bungalow, lap pool and pool house are available as one listing for $3.595 million with the three townhouses being sold separately at prices ranging from $750,000 - $1,050,000.

I really liked Dennis Hopper's acting. I admit I am not the artistic type. I would be interested in a tour of the house but wouldn't buy it or anything like it for any reasonable price. RIP Dennis.

Has to be the uglest house ever. It would make a good discount store such as B.J.'s or cosco, but the outside is uglier. Makes you wonder wo the decorater was.

The huge walls on the outside look very un-friendly, but as you go through this wonderful home, you see that the walls befit his style of art. Very modern and astute. For me, the whole house was indeed beautiful and done in an Artist's style. Gorgeous. Just not warm and comfy. I only found a couple of couches I would be indeed be comfortable sitting in for any more than a few minutes. It needs the help of a woman. Some sense of warmth and compatability. Someplace to just throw yourself down and heave a sigh of "HOME". But ----- if someone wants to buy it for me, I'll move in tomorrow!

God bless him, this house is so COLD. There is nothing warm and homey looking in the whole place. It is as if it was set up for a magazine shot and then just abandoned. The outside is ugly and the guest houses look like trailers. He was a great actor, but apparently from the looks of him home, a very removed person. He is in a better place and I do hope his greedy, unfeeling wife gets what she has coming to her.

This is one of the ugliest, coldest and uninviting celebrity homes I have ever seen! It looks like a warehouse. Nothing homey about it. YUCHH!

Well, it isn't your house so why even comment on it like that. Obviously Dennis liked it, and that was all that mattered.

I love this house. Very contemporary and exactly my style. I'm building one similar right now. RIP Dennis, you were a hell of an actor and fine lookin' too. I'd buy the house in a New York second.

Looks great to me. Lot's of living space.
Plenty of room for the real 'Easy Rider'.
I would buy it in a heart beat if they'll take $100.00 a month for three years and $200.00 a month after that. I can handle this kind of balloon payment (I think).
Wherever you are Dennis, from the 'O.K. Corral' to the back roads of Louisiana, may you be well.
Mike Aug 1st 2010 7:51PM
Ole Dennis did O.K. for a rebel. He was all right in my book!

7 mil for that place? Maybe 700K but only if they clear out all the 'art' cluttering up the place.
Bonnie Conrad Aug 1st 2010 8:05PM
Rest in peace Dennis. You will be remembered for the good things you did and not for your house, your car or your art purchases...those are just things. As always people bicker over the value of things. Actually what is contained in one's life is the good works, the kind words and the gentle thoughts.
Again Rest in peace Dennis.

Looks like a fancy version of Home Depot. Artistic sense? Baloney.
jcaldwell3 Aug 1st 2010 9:12PM
WELL, I DID LIKE THE PIANO, TWO MIRRORS IN PIANO ROOM AND ELVIS POSTER, A BIG THUMBS DOWN TO EVERY THING ELSE. I WAS SURPRISED WHEN I SAW THIS, THIS. this.
BUT THEN WE ALL HAVE DIFFERENT TASTES. I JUST DID NOT EXPECT THIS FROM MR. HOOPER. I LIKED HIM. HE WAS GREAT. BLESS ALL HIS LOVED ONES AND MAY HE REST IN PEACE.

I really liked the abstract paintings in his home. Most of the paintings look like they were from the same artist; Does anyone know who that was?
