The Listing For Dennis Hopper's Compound Goes Live

A link on the Real Estalker website let me know that the listing for Dennis Hopper's Venice, California compound is now live. Last week it was announced that the entire property is for sale for $6.245 million. The property is a joint listing by Jade Mills and Jane Gavens, both with Coldwell Banker Previews International of Beverly Hills. A property website has a whole host of pictures taken by Berlyn Photography which are also in the MLS. The pictures show interior and exterior details off the space which includes the main residence designed by Brian A. Murphy, an art barn and three loft-style townhouses created by architect Frank Gehry.
Hopper was an artist and photographer himself and home displays an artist's sensibilities. The main house is constructed of corrugated steel, and the three townhouses are all open, loft-style spaces outfitted with modern furnishings and large art pieces. A garage featuring some of Hopper's motorcycles opens directly into the large art space. The property also includes the original bungalow-style cottage which was built in 1909 and is decorated in a more traditional style as befits its exterior. The lap pool also faces a small open pool house. Overall the compound extends to over 15,550 square feet of living space. The double provenance of this being both an actor's home and a home designed by the world's preeminent starchitect makes this a highly desirable home and a listing full of luscious pictures doesn't hurt.
The entire property can be bought for $6.245 million or the main residence, bungalow, lap pool and pool house are available as one listing for $3.595 million with the three townhouses being sold separately at prices ranging from $750,000 - $1,050,000.

Dennis Hopper was a Great Humanitarian , Actor, Artist and a Great Friend to everyone. I have always loved his style, art work, as well as his home. Why not make it a historic home for all to see and admirer...?
To Lauren Hutton I am so sorry you your loss of such a beautiful friend. He will always be with you. Namesta. Vicci

It looks beautiful on the inside but the outside is ugly.

Dennis Hopper was a good humanitarian but his tases in homes sucked! This place is awful. It looks like a prison!I wouldnt buy it!
Mattie Knapp Aug 1st 2010 5:18PM
I agree. This house and contents are very ugly and for that kind of money. You have to be nuts to sink that much in a home of any kind.
Opihi Aug 1st 2010 7:36PM
Good grief! No wonder he wants to sell it. This looks like one of our tumbled down "beach" houses here in Hawaii. They also sell for astronomical sums of money. Ugly ugly ugly.

I agree also. This just might be the first celebrity home that I have found just plain unattractive. If I bought it (I don't have that kind of $$), I would completely redo it, inside and out. The only thing I like is the open-air quality of it. Other than that, it's awful.

Dennis Hopper was a great actor and artist. I'm sorry that he was stricken and his life taken from a horrible disease as Prostate Cancer. There needs to be more research to find better treatments and a cure for this, for my husband now is suffering from this same disease in which there aren't many alternatives or good news out there. Please cancer research find a cure for all Cancers and make it a disease that is not existant anymore! As to the house that he owned and is up for sale, I didn't like it for it has the feel as though you lived in a warehouse instead of a warm homey feel to it.

This house is so ugly. What's with that kitchen. Didn't they ever up date it. I doubt they will sell it for that price. Maybe the art is worth more.

Got any pictures of it?

Anyone describing this home as "Ugly" or "Boring" has absolutely NO artistic, taste whatsoever!! Dennis' home is anything BUT Boring or Ugly, its a work of art, both from the outside and inside. this man did NOT end up with a huge fortune in collectable art and memorabilia for no good reason, he had a very keen eye for what "Art" is and is all about. to those describing his home as ugly or boring I would love to see what you live in and consider pretty??
Rob Aug 1st 2010 7:13PM
Hence the reason art is in the eye of the beholder. Not my style, but the man did have an eye.

i totally agree plus i have a few of the same chairs and cow hides he has so i do like his taste and the ceilings are great.
silkyone54 Aug 1st 2010 8:08PM
art? it may be artist but to call this place a 'home' is for lack of a better word....VERY cold and uninviting....looks like a freezer, without the ice....
MR.RICK Aug 1st 2010 4:56PM
all you people that say this house is ugly have no clue! dennis hopper was an artist. he could have had any home he wanted. he chose a space that represented him!
its industrial. its open. its minimalistic. its a reflection of who he is. not who you are. not what your idea of what money looks like. not some country farmhouse or fcuking victorian home inthe middle of the city!
this was his space. open ducts. no carpets. no overpriced crap that is a symbol or your own perceivd greatness. on top of that. i can bet this house looks better than your house. if you had a choice of this house as is... or your own home, you would pack your crap and move here quick!

I'm getting a kick out of all these inbreds criticizing the house and its contents. Hopper's taste was impeccable.
Selma Kahl Aug 1st 2010 4:58PM
I loved that coffee table that really was a gurney for the sick or dead.
Most of the place is not my style but it is far from ugly. It is more like very interesting and facinating. A great guy he was. Rest in peace.
michael Aug 1st 2010 5:03PM
The outside is UGLY....like my body.
The inside is BEAUTIFUL.....like my soul.
Maybe Dennis can relate.
