Gene Autry's Home, Estate of the Day

Earlier this week I mentioned the Roy Rogers auction but he's not the only cowboy singer whose belongings are being sold off. The LA Times Hot Property column reports that the Gene Autry estate, built by Autry in 1949 in Studio City, California, is now on the market for the first time. The property is still owned by his widow, Jacqueline Autry. The two-story five-bedroom Spanish-style main house is on 2.4 acres of land. The home has a family room with a western style wet bar, a library/media room with vintage walnut paneling and a breakfast room. The master suite has a fireplace, large closets and his and hers baths. Outside there is a guest house, swimming pool and an outdoor fireplace. The home is full of Western-style furnishing and works of art which can be bought for $200,000. Autry sang "Back in the Saddle Again" but is perhaps most famous for "Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer." It is listed at $6.9 million with Barbara Robinson of Hilton & Hyland and Connie Nelson of Coldwell Banker, Studio City.

Absolutely horrid looking home, at least on the inside. 7 million bucks and in bad need of a total gut job no less?

May I ask what your credentials are that make you such an expert? I have a feeling that you would not know class if it were to bite you on the arse. It may not be to your taste, and that is ok but you really should state that it is not something that you would like, better still something that you could not ever afford in yourlife time.

Very ugly home.

It does look like it needs help. I am not sure, but assume they had no assistance from a professional when decorating. 200,000 for the furniture? Nope...

the look of the Gene Autry home fits his famous lifestyle and the year 1949..bless his heart..
With TV in its infancy, I grew up a fan of Gene, Roy Rogers, Dale Evans, Hopalong Cassidy, The Cisco Kid, The Lone Ranger, their sidekicks and horses. Seeing the Gene Autry home would only bring those memories to those in my age group. It is a generation thing, like Dick Clark's American Bandstand would be. I hope every generation has the simple yet true quality of these memories to savor, even though the moral quality is no longer intact.

Bob Kraft YOU ARE MISINFORMED or trying to start a Gay rumor that isnt true. Autry got married at 25, remarried 1 year after the death of his 1st wife and was married til death ,,, absolutely no indication of homosexuality. Clayton Moore was married 4 times and spent very little time single. Again no indication of homosexuality. Roy Rogers ... He and his wife were friends of some of my now deceased relatives ... Roy married the first time at 22, married 3 times with only a year of being single. Not even a speck of a rumor of being gay. Some people that were married in Hollywood were gay, including Rock Hudson, The Brady Bunch Dad, Bewitched's second Darren Stevens, Tab Hunter, Richard Chamberlin, Montgomery Clift, Jim Nabors etc. Until blabber mouth gossips like Barbara Walters in the 90's and the 24/7 GOSSIP on entertainers NO ONE CARED. The nice thing was that people in Hollywood before the 90's worked together and generally respected each other.
And for the Gay Activists YOU WERE MORE AND BETTER ACCEPTED BEFORE YOU STARTED OUTING PEOPLE AND GETTING IN PEOPLES PRIVATE SEX LIFE ... The sitcom/dramady SOAP was EXTREMELY POPULAR in the Seventies. Everyone accepted Elton John (admitted to being gay or bi in 70's) and Olivia Newton John (I think she did more of a short Anne Haiche (sp) experience which appears to have quicly ended. Old Perv (he was pretty vulgar in Interviews) Truman Copote was fully accepted, a best selling author and BLATENTLY gay at least by the early 60's which was BEFORE Officials declared that being homosexual was not a mental illness. Can I continue: Andy Warhol ... copies of his pictures were in millions of homes. Tahlula Bankhead (EVERYONE knew and she worked and worked and worked). People that werent gay had no problem attending events at Gay Bathhouses (The VERY STRAIGHTJohnny Carson and many others that listened to Bette Midler sing (With Barry Manilow on piano) in a balcony area overlooking gay men in towels at a GAY bath house in NYC) ... Carson said it and had no problem letting people know he heard her there because NO ONE CARED ... Talent was Talent. People that were not gay re rumoured to have played around (I account allot of drugs influenced some of it) including the very HETEROSEXUAL Mick Jagger but there is no confirmation nor is any necessary except to busy bodies that need to get a life.
If a MAJOR MOVIE STAR WITH TALENT and popularity said he was gay ... people would still see his/her movies (Rupert Everett) and people still re-watch A Place in teh Sun and everything Rock Hudson was in ... all would listen to their music (Elton John (most CD, albums SOLD of ANYONE), Melissa Ethridge, George Michael 9if he would go back and record another CD) Watch them on TV (Doogie Howser guy, Ellen, Rosie O'DOG ,,,ALL (Although Rosie adn Ellen are getting too LET ME TELL YOU ABOUT MY GAY LIFE ... we dont care about you we care about your guests do like Johnny Carson ... LET THEM SHINE and get out of the way) Absolutely NO ONE CARES if Anderson Cooper is /is not because we know and WE DO NOT CARE. TALENT IS TALENT.
So if people are gay SO WHAT. If people are Straight SO WHAT ... TALENT IS WHAT MATTERS ... BUT DO NOT CALL SOMEONE GAY UNLESS THEY SAID IT PUBLICALLY WHEN THEY WERE ALIVE. STOP THE GOSSIP. (And these 3 were not gay, no indication of bing gay and if they were they never said so while alive so let the dead be dead

Yep nothing like the trailor most of you live in
Bob Kraft Jun 22nd 2010 8:40AM
Autry having been gay, his home should sell quickly to someone of that persuasion. Yes, the furnishings are trash. I find it interesting that Jackueline, his widow, and nothing more than a money manager to Gene, never redecorated. But then, what do bank executives know or care about decor?
Paul Jun 22nd 2010 10:06AM
Well Bob Kraft...I wonder exactly what kind of miserable life you have led...without the fun and fantasy escape of Hollywood westerns that taught honesty, charity, and RESPECT to the young kids of the day!!! Sad!!! Neither Roy, Gene, or Clayton Moore (Lone Ranger) were homosexual. It is obvous you have learned too much from the films and tv shows of the past twenty years that are filled with much too much garbage:( You simply need Jesus in your heart.
Steve Jun 22nd 2010 11:34AM
WOW....Bob Kraft......You are one sick SOB! It makes me wonder where some dimwitted sick piece of dung like you ever got the money together to buy a computer (or are you sitting at the Public Library?). You have got to be leading one miserable friggin life....single.....homophobic....sick....and very very lonely! Thank goodness people like you don't reproduce....but then again, you have probably never had the pleasure of a physical or emotional relationship with a female. I hope you and Rosey Palm live happily ever after.....you poor, pathetic, sick piece of dung!
PAULSTARNYC Jun 22nd 2010 12:36PM
WOW, BOB , YOU ARE PRETTY MUCH OF AN IDIOT... WHERE IN BLUE HELL DO YOU GET THESE IDEAS. AND FURTHERMORE WHO CARES? CLEARLY NOBODY HERE
Irish mist Jun 22nd 2010 1:59PM

Gene Autry's home is a beautiful home, and would be a great place to have. I would not change anything. It is perfect, except it is in that California area, which would be a bad place to live.
userea7591 Jun 22nd 2010 1:56PM
Yes Terry, I agree with you. The house is beautiful and so were
this couple. I wish I could have one room that I could call my
own that looks like this. Roy was a saint!!
Hattie Crabtree Jun 22nd 2010 9:43AM
The only thing I don't care for is the yellow tile and the funny old cabinets in the kitchen.
Hattie Crabtree Jun 22nd 2010 9:45AM
Justme is a moron. It can't even spell trailer right.I bet this home gets torn down, like many other mansions have.Jayne Mansfield's home was and her daughter the actress was upset the heart shaped pool is gone.
Juliann Jun 22nd 2010 9:57AM
A few shelves with books on and a flat screen TV makes a library/media room?
The house is pretty on the outside, but with a pool and guest house on 2.5 acres sounds sort of cramped, and 6 million dollars? But everything is over-priced in CA.
Joe Papierz Jr Jun 22nd 2010 10:03AM
I grew up watching RR and the rest and still remember them well. I would love to own and live in the RR Estate. Personally I think the decor is perfect. I wouldn't change a thinkg except the name on the mail box and clothes in the closet.
Diana Jun 22nd 2010 10:05AM
Price is for the land, the house is a tear down.
