Leading the pack at a Patrizzi & Co.
auction on June 15th in New York City was this beautiful F.P. Journe Sonnerie Souveraine watch with a series of chiming functions, as well as the time and power reserve. Watch maker F.P. Journe has been experiencing increased levels of interesting notoriety among the educated watch elite. While not at Patek Philippe levels in terms of auction prices, Journe's brand has been around much less time with lots of success comparatively speaking. The talented watch maker creates a limited amount of highly complicated watches each year - all of which have meaningful, well conceived complications - as opposed to mere "novel complications." This watch was made in 2007. The fact that Patrizzi & Co. offered the F.P. Journe watch as an auction leader is a good sign. It fetched $400,000 (though that price was at the low end of the $400,000 - $550,000 estimate). Journe still needs to prove himself a bit, but is showing lots of promise.
