Get Your Very Own Jetsons Car for $3 Million

Okay, so what you're looking at is not a car from The Jetsons. It doesn't fly and it doesn't fold into a briefcase when you get to your office in the sky. But it might as well. What it is, in fact, is a one-of-a-kind prototype made by Pininfarina – the same company that designs every Ferrari – in 1960 to demonstrate what was possibly in advanced aerodynamics. And now it's up for sale.
Called the X Concept, it has a unique wheelbase with one wheel front, one aft, and two near the center. It has a drag coefficient of 0.23...that's lower than a Toyota Prius, one of the most aerodynamic cars on the road today, but this was done fifty years ago. Only one was ever made, and the Aero Toy Store in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, has it for sale with a price tag of $3 million. JamesList has it listed from the same dealership for $1.3 million, so it looks like the steep price is negotiable.

I bet it didn't cost 3 million to build in 1960. Must be based on storage costs. I like the Fred Barker Sky Commuter built in 1985 and it flew on ducted fans. It only cost 2 million per prototype to build. So who's getting the screws on this one.

Pininfarina has designed every Ferrari for many years now. The story does not say that they have desinged every Ferrari ever made.

Well, it certain isn't attractive, so there must be something else about this vehicle that they aren't telling us. As is, I would pay good money to have it hauled away. I don't like looking like an idiot, in front of my neighbors.

Looks like the rear 2/3s of a 1957 Caddy Eldorado.

What an ugly 3-wheeled tub! This doesn't look like George Jetson's flying car. HIS was cool. This looks like Rosie the Robot on wheels!

A very ugly car, and a very stupid buyer who buys it, money better well spent. People who want future cars have to realize that technology is already here and cannot come to fruition because Our Government is sleeping with the Oil Companies and our car companies choose to continue to manufacture gas guzzlers and speed demons. What good is a Mercedes that has 450 HP and goes 140 MPH?? NO GOOD, fit for the race track but not the streets, it's all about money folks and image and NOT for transportation purposes. To me NO car is worth more than $5,000.00 and Americans who pay more are "Not firing on all cylinders" to say the least. I watched a guy on "SPEEDERS" the other day who bought a 90's car for $1500.00 and spent over $8,000.00 for tires, rims and interior hardly a good investment. Car companies are only interested in profits and rely on the assumption that people will pay the price they are asking for the vehicle and not fuel mileage or transportation purposes. Car company's are the main contributors to our dependance on foreign fuel and the People don't seem to have a clue, but still complain on the cost of gas. The prevelance of vehicles on our highways surely undermines our ability to create more efficient public transportation. It surely makes sense to have a mass transit system for to and from work traveling, BUT I ask, why would one go out and pay $30,000.00+ for a car or truck and then spend around $150.00 to $250.00+ per week for gas just for a round trip of 10 to 60+ miles and 1 to 3+ hours just to get to work? This does NOT make any sense at all. As long a there are those who think this way, we will always be dependant on foreign Oil and will always pay high prices for cars and will always pay high prices for gas and be a slave to the pump, all for the sake of image. Yet these same people complain on the drive time, the traffic and the cost of gas, not to mention the wasted time battling traffic and the wingnuts on the road. To go truly "SPACEAGE" Streamlined High Efficiency Mass Transit is the only way, save your car and your money for the weekends, Use the 3 Million for clothes or shoes....

Looks like one of many 'idea', concept cars over the years.
Possibly the old 'Isetta' (sp) had a good idea with two fixed wheel forward and the steerable wheels mounted at the rear. I have seen the 'new' reverse trike motor cycles that have two wheels forward and the steerable wheel mounted at the rear. This might provide for maximum stability, and crash survival and be very steerable. Anything that works and gets more mpg. As a kid of the 1950s and a boomer, GM, Ford , Chrysler, Studebaker and Tucker had some beautiful dream, develpment cars that were at the car shows.

When automobile look like that, price is VERY NEGOTIABLE! People in jail for designing such ugly vehicles. Ich verstehe nicht!

If it doesn't fly it is completely worthless!! The true value of this x-concept is worth an estimated $2,899 .... Anything more than it's true value is a real joke!

Looks like a giant aluminum condom. I wonder what the insurance rates would be for something like this. And what do you do about door "nicks" that you get at the grocery store.
