Get Your Very Own Jetsons Car for $3 Million

Okay, so what you're looking at is not a car from The Jetsons. It doesn't fly and it doesn't fold into a briefcase when you get to your office in the sky. But it might as well. What it is, in fact, is a one-of-a-kind prototype made by Pininfarina – the same company that designs every Ferrari – in 1960 to demonstrate what was possibly in advanced aerodynamics. And now it's up for sale.
Called the X Concept, it has a unique wheelbase with one wheel front, one aft, and two near the center. It has a drag coefficient of 0.23...that's lower than a Toyota Prius, one of the most aerodynamic cars on the road today, but this was done fifty years ago. Only one was ever made, and the Aero Toy Store in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, has it for sale with a price tag of $3 million. JamesList has it listed from the same dealership for $1.3 million, so it looks like the steep price is negotiable.

Pininfarina designed some Ferraris, but far from "every Ferrari".

Nice interior... N O T ! This is some kind of joke. Imagine buying this and breaking down as soon as you get it off the lot. You couldn't even have it towed. If you lift the front end up the tail would scrape. Lift the back end and the single wheel would buckle. It better fly!

I have looked at the car. It is a bit rough, with chipped paint and light damage typical of unrestored vehicles. It is carefully built and handsome, in a weird way. This car is definitely NOT worth the money that could buy a REAL car like a 1960s Ferrari 250GT.

The best thing you COULD do with that car is to crush it and fold it up like a briefcase!!!!!!!!!!!!!! LOL
Stacy Jun 4th 2010 11:39AM

Brandy Jun 4th 2010 9:12AM

Doesn't say if it's street legal. Also, a mere dent will cost no less than $20,000 to fix...

The 63-64 worlds fair in NY had much better looking 3 wheeled cars of the future
al schrader Jun 4th 2010 11:04AM
Actually this is a Four wheeled car & a work of genius. It has one wheel in front, one in back, and one on Each side. This arrangement allows the body to be shaped as a true elipse & a perfect aerodynamic shape.
What makes Colodni a leader is the fact that he actually builds his ideas.
I've sketched-up many designs that were absolutely perfect on paper, then I built it, and it didn't work. Hard work is the only way to achieve anything....Al-

I can't help but wonder if this design wasn't taken from the concept of Luigi Coloni
who openly has always said, the the shape of an egg is the basis for all of his designs.

For three milion bucks, the contraption better take my blood pressure, go grocery shopping and give hummers. I know Jay Leno likes buying/fixing.restoring/driving collectable autos and bikes but I don't even see him as getting excited at this turd on wheels.
Stacy Jun 4th 2010 10:02AM
That would be the last thing id buy if i had 3 mil... and whoever thinks about
buying it,.see me first..im sure i could figure out how to spend that sorta loot
without going home with the ugliest thing on 3 wheels..YUCK..
Robert Jun 4th 2010 10:24AM

PINAFARINA ? DONT THEY MAKE DOG FOOD ?
Draconian Jun 4th 2010 10:58AM
3 million dollars would be better spent on the invention of an engine fueled by human emissions. Imagine the cost effectiveness of farting in the gas tank!
Draconian Jun 4th 2010 11:06AM
Why not spend 3 million dollars on the invention of an engine fueled by human emissions. Imagine the cost effectiveness of farting in a gas tank?
