If they can give you 75% off retail and STILL make a profit, then retail stores are overcharging--and that's an understatement!!

frenchblue367

Comments on $1.6 Million Mistake Means No Ice Cream For Zappos CEO

Actually th article indicated that items were sold UNDER cost. So they did not make a profit on those items, they lost money on them.
I am sure that the markup on so many items is huge-I don't dispute that. But after all it is a business and the point is to make a profit. That is how our capitalistic economy runs. No profit = no incentive to run the business. Not to say we should be gouged in any way, simply stating that there should be profits or else the company could not do business.

jrterr9412

Comments on $1.6 Million Mistake Means No Ice Cream For Zappos CEO

What are you a commie? If people are willing to pay a price, it's not overcharging. If you can buy it cheaper go somewhere else!! It's called free trade(capitalism), the basis on which our economy and by extension our way of life is based. A fool and his money are soon parted, and you sound like a fool to me. Come to my store any day, I gotta great deal for you, sucka!!

waagtod

Comments on $1.6 Million Mistake Means No Ice Cream For Zappos CEO

The article said they lost $1.6 million due to the error, so what profit was made? You can treat the internet just as you do regular stores. If Macys sells an item cheaper than Bloomingdales, then I simply purchase the item from Macys. If you find something cheaper on a different internet site, then don't purchase it from Zappos. What's the point of admonishing Zappos for their pricing when there are cheaper options available? Why should we dictate their pricing?

Afesken

Comments on $1.6 Million Mistake Means No Ice Cream For Zappos CEO

Please disregard my previous comment!!!

Afesken

Comments on $1.6 Million Mistake Means No Ice Cream For Zappos CEO

I'm really impressed that the CEO honored the prices. If you ever go to an international shoe trade show you can find hundreds of asian manufacturers that will make you a running shoe of the same quality as a pair of Nike's best, in fact the factory may even make shoes for Nike, that will sell you a pair for $7 landed in the USA. Of course you would need to order 100,000 pair but still that is the cost.

Retail outlets work on 75-80% margin on shoes. They purchase a pair of shoes from a vendor for $20 and sell them for $100. Even if they sold that $100 pair for $40 they would still make $20.

That is what's wrong with American capitalism today. There is not enough competition to drive prices down and too many greedy publicly held corporations that will not even buy a product unless they get 75% margin. It is really sickening.

I won't pay more than $10 for a button down shirt because I know Macy's only paid $7 for it. People think they lose money on 75% off sales. They wouldn't have a 75% off sale if they lost money.

Iridium
