M·A·C Cosmetics: An Industry Favorite

M·A·C Cosmetics, or Make-up Art Cosmetics, is a favorite of runway artists and film stars alike, and a nominee for a Readers' Choice Award in Best in Cosmetics.
The company was founded in Toronto by Frank Toskan and Frank Angelo back in 1985, and the legend says that the formation of the entire company was based on just one shade of lipstick: M.A.C. Red. The story goes that the pair were mixing their own shade of red to use in a runway show, and everyone from the models to the photographers fell in love with it. The two Franks joined forces to found M·A·C Cosmetics, a line of cosmetics for industry professionals.
The company created makeup in diverse shades, encompassing far more ethnicities than was traditional, and began concocting industry-specific products like their famous Studio Fix for photo-perfect finishes. Industry professionals definitely paid attention, and the products, now under the managerial arm of Estée Lauder Companies, are still widely used today by makeup artists from behind the catwalks of Paris to behind the scenes in Hollywood.
In addition to being an industry favorite, M·A·C has won the hearts of the mainstream with their readily-available, reasonably-priced cosmetics. The company also endears itself to the public with their celebrity-fueled ad campaigns and their strong eye on social causes like AIDS and environmental concerns. Currently, they are promoting several programs for the greater good, including MACAIDSFUND.org, Back to M.A.C. (the recycling and eco-consciousness operandi) and the VIVA GLAM collection. VIVA GLAM is a long running campaign (since 1994) which encourages consumers to support the MACAIDSFUND by simply buying a VIVA GLAM shade of lipstick. This season's VIVA GLAM muses are none other than Cyndi Lauper and Lady Gaga.
One of the more recent M·A·C projects unites the public with the professionals, allowing consumers to email their Artists for tips and advice. So, if you've got a makeup question only a pro can answer, visit the M·A·C website.
Vote for the cosmetics line that you believe is the best of breed. The voting period runs through May 31st and winners will be announced on June 1.
