Panamera Outsells All Other Porsches in America

There's strength in numbers, or so the saying goes. Purists who feel that a proper Porsche should have two doors and an engine in the back may take solace in that thought, because the latest sales figures for the German automaker in the American market have just come in.
For the first time since its (admittedly recent) introduction, the new Porsche Panamera has become the company's top seller Stateside. In fact the 678 Panameras which Porsche sold in the U.S. in April comes in at more than double that of the 911, Porsche's core product.
The Cayenne sport-utility vehicle was the top seller, averaging 800 per month over the course of last year, but while the Panamera may have usurped the truck's throne, the introduction of the new Cayenne could see it return to the top spot in short order.

Just saw one of these on the street yesterday and was surprised to find that it's actually uglier in person than it is in the photos - didn't think that was possible. Why anyone would buy this is beyond me. I'll stick with my 911, thankyouverymuch.

I happen to love this car! It's my new obsession. I'll wait for any kinks to get worked out first but this car in 4s or turbo form is definitely in my future. I saw one this morning on west side highway here in nyc and it looked great!!!!

Managed to drive turbo, awd non-turbo, and 2wd non-turbo back to back at a Porsche ride and drive. Many of the people in the group were Porsche owners (mostly 911 and Cayenne) already. Many were looking for something more dynamically resolved than the Cayenne. The Panamera certainly does that. While the turbo was impressively quick, almost everyone liked the sweet and tossable nature of the regular 2wd. The steel suspension however, was a bit too floppy at times when compared to the air suspension.
As for the looks, can't say I like them at all. And that ridiculous hatch (which weighs a ton), the sharply curved C pillar and tall sill which make getting in the back less than graceful, points to some odd design choices. However, the interior is finished far better than any Porsche before.
